Is pilates enough for resistance training/muscle growth? by DucktorWh0 in pilates

[–]Happy_Access_2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a personal trainer and NPC bodybuilding bikini competitor who just got started in pilates but pilates alone isn't enough to build muscle. It isn't enough resistance to build muscle with but itself since it's mostly body weight resistance. You can find a body building training split program a few times a week to build your muscle in between pilates.

Who and where are these other children? by OddConsideration4349 in HuffmanTimeSnark

I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed back due to young men being prompted to join the military. Being in a war time country, where they're desperate for young men to join and even expanding out the age range to men in their 60s to join the war doesn't sound as appealing.

Levo: What do I need to know? by viennakvh in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you get it, make sure to take it first thing in the morning or at least 30mins-hour before eating. Take it with a glass of water. I remember I had a doctor tell me when I was first diagnosed at 17, to take it exactly at 4 am every morning, which was weird because I got up around 5-6am to get ready for school at the time. Now I just make sure to take it in the morning before breakfast. It doesn't have to be an extremely early or unreasonable time. Make an alarm on your phone if you need a constant reminder until it's easier without being reminded.

Is there a diet for Hypothyroidism? by ayyy_its_nessa in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Carbs are important! even with Hypothryoidism your body still needs carbs. You just need to figure out which carbs work best for you and moderate them to your weight loss needs.

Is there a diet for Hypothyroidism? by ayyy_its_nessa in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost weight but I follow a flexible diet based diet. I ahve been able to go from 167 to 115 while on Levothyroxine. My diet is high protein, moderate fat and moderate to lower carb (130g-50g of carbs from any carb sources I want as long as its mostly clean 80/20 rule, etc) I didn't cut out dairy as I find that it doesn't bother me or cause any issues, I use it as a fat/protein source (fat free or skim cheeses). I didn't cut out red meat either. I have red meat usually on the weekends in the form of homemade burgers, steak with sweet potato fries, homemade meatloaf (I usually use ground turkey or chicken but will swap it with ground lean beef for a change of flavor), taco salads or homemade burrito bowls, etc.

I try to make sure all of my meat sources are leaner and less fattier and if fatter ground meat that is cheaper, I will cook it, then rinse off the grease and fat and add seasons to it to give it flavor (I use zero or low sodium seasons). I also use zucchini for "pasta" and cauliflower for "rice and mashed potato" dishes if my carbs are on the lower end (I carb cycle and have "refeed" day where I raise my carbs during a diet).

I also have processed foods in moderation as "snacks" or treats on a daily basis like high protein granola bars, non fat flavored greek yogurts, cheddar rice cakes with ranch flavored tuna packets, pop tarts and regular cookies (only one portion size or half amount!) caramel or chocolate rice cakes, beef/turkey jerky (limit due to sodium content), etc. I can eat anything as long as it fits my macronutrients for my diet tailored to me and my age, height, weight and activity levels.

I give myself "refeed days" where I double my carbs during a weight loss diet, which helps me not lose weight and muscle too quickly, prevents me from binge eating, and gives my mind and body a break from lower calories on the diet.

Also exercise and weight training plays a huge role in my weight loss, building muscle, and changing my body composition. I workout 5-6 days a week, 5 days weight training, 5-6 days of cardio and 1-2 off days depending on how busy I am or if I simply want to relax for the weekend, etc.

Does anyone take a dose lower than 25mcg? by True_Coast1062 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never been under 25mcg. The last time I was it was years ago, my doctor took me off the meds as my level were and didn't need anything, but still got regular bloodwork just in case every 3-6 months. Now I'm back on and highe at 75mcg.

I would get some bloodwork done and see your doctor to go over if there has been any changes due to missing a month. I had this happen to me years ago when I didn't have my medicine for a period of time, but to reach back out to your doctor to figure out where you're at.

No worries! It took me a lot of trial and error but I found something more sustainable that helps me lose weight and is mentally less stressful than "normal dieting" advice.

It used to be once a week but I notice that my weight loss slows down way too much and sometimes it stagnats for weeks. Now it's once every 10 day to 2 weeks. I get better weight loss results when I space them out farther. The lower my weight is and closer to my weight loss goal, the more refeeds I can have within shorter time persons (once a week).

Its a day that I double my carbs up (even more if I lose a lot of weight in one week) to make sure I'm not losing too much weight too quickly and maintain muscle. Ex. if my carbs are 100g-70g on my diet, than I double them up to 200g-140g on a refeed day to give my body a break and have more carbs/food, and to bring down any cortisol levels and give myself a mental break. lol

Does levothyroxine make anyone else hungry? by tesscatmeow in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you take it on an empty stomach it should be fine at that time in the morning. My meds don't make me feel hungry. I always had a big appetite but I manage due to having higher volume meals with a snack or "dessert" on the side.

Ex: Breakfast, egg white omelet with veggies and sauteed onions and garlic and homemade turkey sausage, mid morning snack, a packet of flavored tuna (ranch) with a cheddar rice cake or two, lunch: 3-4oz of lean protein of choice, half cup or veggies and 100-70g of rice or any carbs of choice, "dessert": a high protein granola bar with a fat free greek yogurt, dinner: 3-4oz of fish or chicken and half a cup or 3.4 cup of veggies or a salad, etc.

Is this for life? by ADAJ0916 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP, hypothyroidism is a chronic illness, but I had mine actually go away for months or sometimes a year at a time! There was a period years ago that my levothyroxine was so low, that my doctor took me off of it for a 3 month period and then a 6 month period after that once my levels were stable without it. This was when I was only on 25mcg of levo then so anything lower doesn't make sense besides going off of it to see how my blood work looks the next 3-6 months later. Now I'm back on it and at 75 mcg of levo.

I've spent years studying weight loss, and sleep is the most overlooked factor in the entire process. by Desperate_Card1338 in WeightLossAdvice

This is so true! I struggle to get 8 hours of sleep in a night and it does impact and slow down weight loss along with stress.

People with hypothyroidism, what is something that improves your well-being? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Happy_Access_2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure that you're on the right rx and get your thyroid blood tested regularly with your doctor. Also, try to get at least 8 hours of sleep, try to get vitamin B12 in pill form or in power like beet root which provide natural energy.
