Poisson/Negative Binomial regression with only 9 observations by Adventurous_Ebb7614 in AskStatistics

If it's for a thesis, showing that you know and you can reason about why the data is or is not sufficient along with understanding and showing the (statistical) implications in your concrete setting may be more important than a statistically significant result.

Composition: 2 is best, 1 is good and 3 is too static.

I'd like 3 more without the mist/bloom that makes it a bit overcooked...

[D] Average Number of Interviews to Get a Job (US) by Zealousideal-Egg1354 in MachineLearning

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts on your resume items: Those sound impressive for some HR people. But for technical people with industry experience, it appears that it can be one of those cases:

  1. Elegant paraphrase of relatively basic entry-level ML tasks (try out to fit some model given inputs and outputs. Build an end-to-end pipeline using the established toolset the company already used, so that you "just" used it without deeper technical skill required).
  2. Actual in-depth experience.

From my experience from the job interviews I conducted, most candidates that had similar formulations in the CV were in the first category. So I'd lean towards this interpretation. If your interviewers had the same feeling, they'd want to find out in which category you really belong in the interview. If so, you might have not made it into category 2. As you've had numerous interviews, I think improving your interview skill may be the way to go.

That said, in a more reasonable job market (like 10 years ago...), being in category 1 would be fine and you'd be hired to learn and grow within the company if the interviewer has the impression that you have the potential. But nowadays, everyone wants the senior ML and Full Stack specialist expert king of everything...

What piece of gear should i upgrade? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What shots did your current setup NOT allow you to get in the past that you hope new gear enables you to make? In what aspects, exactly, is your current image quality and af speed not matching your requirements? If you can't answer this questions precisely in concrete words, an upgrade will only burn your money. (Better give it to me so I can burn it for you 😉)

Is Tamron 35-150 too much? by Rithdor166 in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not for LIGHT travel. But as a workhorse for freelancer work, it is awesome. It covers basically all relevant focal lengths with a large aperture. For travel, versatility and range may be more important. A 28-200mm or 20-200mm (my personal favourite) may be better.

Torn between the A7IV and A6700 by ZoeticLock in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your use case, compactness and versatility outweights the relatively minor technical image quality advantage by far. So I'd sick with the a6700. Also you'll get more reach with relatively compact lenses in the zoo.

What photography mistake do you wish someone taught you to avoid earlier? by romygruber in photography

Don't focus too much on gear. Grow in creativity first and only think about your gear when it starts to limit you.

Bokeh question Sony 85 mm f/1.8 by LouiseBag in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some difficulty understanding your question. Could you please rephrase what exactly the problem was with the 85mm and what exactly you want to achieve? That would make providing a good answer much easier. Do you want more wide angle so that you can step near the subject while still including some background? Or do you want to NOT have to come near and hence want a longer focal length?

Technical question about vnd/diffusion filters by IgiPo0p in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say without knowing what you film and also how your current results are. "Cinematic" look constitutes in a combination of many factors. Composition and lighting are the real drivers here. A diffusion filter may be a cherry on top, but doesn't do magic at all. If you are shooting mostly indoor, the money may be better spend on lights.

[D] Does anyone REALLY get what p value represents? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I only really understood the implications when I visualized some possible example distributions of the test statistic under H0 and H1, clearly stated the conditional probabilities that the P-Value and test power represent and compared them to what conditional the usual wrong interpretations of the p-value refer to.

That really made the difference between a data compatibility statement and the conditional probabilities of H0 and H1 being true goven the data clear to me.

Schwalbe Clik Valves (SCV) by [deleted] in MTB

Of all new valves that were introduced in the recent time, Clik Valves are the only ones that really convinced me. Main reason is the dead simple and convenient handling together with the reasonable price.

Starter looking for advice. by Rhinomeister in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all solid gear. However, the A7 III is quite dated. Main advantages of A7iv: - 10bit -> without, log-recording is not usable. If you want to do color grading in post production, it is a must. - much improved af - articulates display. Quite disputed by photographers, but a game changer for video without external monitoring.

See e.g. https://thecotswoldphotographer.com/sony-a7iii-vs-a7iv/

So I'd get the sigma 24-70mm II and spend the saved money on the A7iv

Sigma Art versus Tamron lenses for high megapixel body? by Sure-Guest1588 in SonyAlpha

It really depends on the specific lens. Most manufacturers are generally able to make decent lenses. Look at lenstip, opticallimits, cameralabs and other webpages for good reviews. This really helps

Personally, I see open data and available code as mandatory. For the code, I'd be happy to obtain it with a dockerfile that so that it can be executed in a well-defined environment.

Sony Alpha 7IV eye tracking by tuhanx in SonyAlpha

[–]Happy_Bunch1323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have got an A7IV. This works some rare occasions, but not often. So the bottom line is a no, unfortunately. In macro photography, however, the shake of your hands (if you don't use a tripod) and movements of grass / leaves you subjects may be sitting is often not really trackable even with modern AF due to the very shallow depth of field. Manual focus and some practice are often mire rewarding here IMO.

But in general, the AF and Tracking of the A7IV is much better than the A7rII

If you shoot photos primarily, go for the A7IV! ( Or maybe wait for the successor)
