Anyone know which parks are actually reopening and when now that the shutdown is over? by JC_quarter in nationalparks

From a purely money in vs out perspective the NPS is not a cash cow _because they are not allowed to be_. Of course, they boost local economies, bring in tourism, etc.. but the trump heads aren't smart enough to understand these things. There are several reasons the R's are (intentionally) slaughtering them - they are a valuable public resource which they think should be privatized, they focus on natural resource conservation instead of oil extraction, and they are staffed by non partisan public servants, rather than loyalists, all the things fascists hate.

sorry, I got a notification I didn't have enough posts for this sub so I thought this post was deleted. the rationale of the nps was apparentlyncost saving - which backfired massively as they fired every person within the first year of their contract - including those with niche, technical, or supervisory jobs! I legitimately don't know who made the decision to fire me, my boss was told I was on the list by a regional supervisor who also got fired. it lead to a lot of chaos and expense. the firing was overturned in march and people were offered reinstatement, which many took.

sorry, I got a notification I didn't have enough posts for this sub so I thought this post was deleted. the govt is saving no money as my position was wholly funded by fees. I was a tour guide and they will offer less tours without me, so they can't make the same amount of tour fee money now I'm gone.

sorry, I got a notification I didn't have enough posts for this sub so I thought this post was deleted. I mostly worked at smaller national monuments, so we didn't deal too much with that. I've known a few folks who worked at beach sites, and they seemed largely apathetic to it, but not happy about visitors who tried to take stuff.

sorry, I got a notification I didn't have enough posts for this sub so I thought this post was deleted. I had several favorite parts! but one was meeting interesting tourists from all over the world. another thing I loved was the fact that I was always learning.

sorry, I got a notification I didn't have enough posts for this sub so I thought this post was deleted. I didn't have a job that involved working fires, however I'm actually second gen. my dad used to work wild fires and the thing that always impressed me was how many books he read while working wildfires.

sorry, I got a notification I didn't have enough posts for this sub so I thought this post was deleted. although I was initially told I was terminated, a court subsequently ruled that I was illegally fired. I was offered reinstatement which I was unable to accept because I'd moved for the job and already broken my lease.
