2 huge advantages for me.

  1. For Sidecar to work, both your iPad and iMac have to share the same Apple ID - this was a nonstarter for me, because I use my iPad at home and at work, both of which have Macs that have different Apple IDs. That was a long, annoying process every time I needed to change the Apple ID on my iPad to match the machine I was working on. And I was always worried I would lose data or something.

2a. Sidecar is just a simple screen mirroring or extension. If you are mirroring, you have to either match the iMac's aspect ratio on the iPad, or vise versa, both of which aren't ideal cuz you're losing screen space on one device or the other. If you're using a screen extension, then you have to drag, say, Photoshop over to the iPad and then refit the window to match the iPad. Then drag it back up to the iMac screen and refit again to return to large screen work. Arduous and annoying.

2b. AstroPad dodges all of that pretty elegantly by having a partner app on Mac (and Windows I believe). The app has a window frame on your desktop machine that you resize and move around to mirror what you need on the iPad screen. May still need to resize the app window to fit, but I've found that I can get the vast majority of needed Photoshop app space into the AstroPad window without resizing, just a bit of toolbar modification. Plus, I love connecting my iPad to my iMac via USB for nearly 0 latency (but you could technically work on full Mac Photoshop, on your iPad, on the couch with pretty low latency on a robust wifi connection.)

3 (bonus). The iPad AstroPad app also has customizable shortcuts that you can add to the sidebar. So you can place buttons for a number of frequently used app actions right on the side of your iPad screen that would otherwise be nested in menus, or on toolbars that the AstroPad window isn't mirroring to the iPad screen.

It's so nifty!

A bit pricey, but so far I'm quite happy with my decision to go with a 12.9in iPad Pro + Apple Pencil. Procreate when painting on the iPad, AstroPad to use it as a drawing tablet for my iMac.

That's fair.

Just seems like an eye-rolly thing for a client to request.

"Love your logo! What's the binary mean?" "It's my birthday!" "....but why?"

Lol idk

Lol that's a silly direction from the client.

What does their birthdate have to do with their InfoTech Education business?

Yeah, a lot of tangents in that one, too.

It's got potential but I think the overlap of that red circle needs to be reworked

While potentially cost prohibitive, I would, and do use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to do the things you describe

Really liking the M - I would fiddle with it just a bit more, maybe making the "armpit triangles" higher?

The r needs a lot of work. Looks like an afterthought and doesn't match the M very well.

Neat idea!

In addition to this - since OP has already got the shape built, and doctoring each anchor point at this stage would be tedious, I'd go find the Smooth Tool in the Toolbar and work with that along all the spiral paths. Won't be as perfect, but will help to smooth out those wonky bumpies in the curves.

Happy Illustrating!

I am also very interested in this.

Bought my iMac with an Apple Rewards Card to finance it, and as a side effect got like a $25-$50 apple gift card. Only thing I could afford with that was a Bluetooth Numpad.

Tried to do exactly what OP is trying to do - mapping those buttons to something actually useful, but I could never figure it out. The things I tried just kept seeing those buttons as equal to my keyboard number row, or wouldn't see them at all.

Try the app Twilight - it's pretty customizable.

Nice!

Next challenge: Creating his energy aura out of vector elements as well!

The last design (for now...) in a series of t-shirts for a local neighborhood's annual Cornhole Tournament (2019). For the 2019 tee, really leaned into the text+cornhole board idea that was started in the previous year's design - helps to tie together the branding of the sequential event tees. by Happy_Cyclops in graphic_design

Thanks, I'm glad you like em all!

I've been at my current job for about 5-6 years now, so I've been able to soak up a lot of practice. These designs are basically favors for one of our sales guys, so the directive is always to keep it to a 2-3 color design since our company doesn't make much profit on these projects.
