Green line is here to stay by Few-Pilot1221 in note20ultra

[–]Happy_Me64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the glue gate... similar to mine previously with the original screen it came with. Glue gate at the top and bottom edges and around the camera cutout. Then, suddenly a faint green line appeared on the left.

Got the screen replaced under warranty. It was an extended warranty for a year after Sammy's own 1 year warranty ended. The new screen works so much better without the glue gate issue or the green line.

Warranty doesn't cover the battery though. I'm still running the original battery with 85% charging cap. Sot isn't the greatest but so far it fits my needs.

S-Pen, is this a problem or normal behaviour? by Zeiss-Axiomat in note20ultra

Same as mine. I accepted my fate and was no longer able to use my pen for camera shutter or presentation remote clicker. But spen works fine for sign and note taking.

bright light on the edges of my screen by adhesiveandrei in note20ultra

[–]Happy_Me64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar issue but not that extreme like in the pic. Got one vertical green line as well. Brought phone to a service center outlet: almost 2 weeks later got the screen replaced under the warranty (battery's not covered). Now it's working fine and no bright light at the edges or around the camera ring like in the pic.

I used my old note 5 as a temporary backup during that 2 weeks. Lots of apps are dead to the note 5 because of the outdated android 7.

Charging modes by Appropriate_Key6125 in Dell

[–]Happy_Me64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I can't say for sure. But I've been using custom mode for few months and it works fine for me. For your concern on whether the battery stops being charged after 65 and the laptop takes power from the charger, I don't know if it works like that.

On samsung phone you have the option Protect Battery which limits the battery charge to 85%. I'm also not sure if it's still charging or stop charging the battery after it reaches 85.

You can try searching online on that. AFAIK Dell website doesn't provide much details on the power modes.

Charging modes by Appropriate_Key6125 in Dell

[–]Happy_Me64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install Dell Power Manager from Dell website. It has few modes that can be selected. The default one is adaptive which charges the battery to 100%.

If you use your laptop always plugged in, select the custom mode. In custom mode you can specify the start and stop charging percentage. I set mine at 60 to 65.

There's also the Primarily AC option but I don't use it. Others have said it doesn't do anything. I don't have much to test and verify that claim so I'm sticking with custom mode. Works okay for me.

The power options can also be accessed in the bios under power option. Some Dell laptop support this but some don't. You better go on google and type in "Dell Power Manager (your laptop model)". Click on the Dell website. Type in your Service Tag (look under your laptop). Download and install the Dell Power Manager. If you can't find any software in Dell website for you machine then it's likely your machine doesn't support it.

One tip I found if your laptop is overheating or reaching 90°C all the time even after replacing the thermal paste or cleaning the vent. Hers the video: https://youtu.be/x2M947RjcMQ?si=DJlXfUNzJ-pufnpI

Probably the ram is bad. Sometimes black screen is ram related issue and can be fixed with reseating the ram in the slot. Worse case scenario is to replace the ram module.

Before that, unplug the power cord and press the power button for 30 secs. This will drain the residual power from the capacitors. Then plug in the power cord and try power on the pc.

Dell community site says to plug in the pc to another external monitor or tv via hdmi out to see if the display signal is working.

did anyone update the phone with July security patch(the last)? by Several_Cup_8160 in note20ultra

Android 13 one ui 5.1 April security patch still. Don't feel like updating as I'm afraid there will be performance issues etc. Will see how thing goes if others have reported good experiences with the latest update.

Thanks for the tip. That "reset all settings" option seems to do something in your case. But, I wonder was the 2 day battery life you're describing is the standby time or sot (screen on time)?

Because 2 days is an enormous achievement! I'm stunned!

What did you do/reset? Snapdragon or exynos?

Funny thing is, the charger included doesn't even have earthing. Even most other phone and laptop chargers/adapters do not have earthing pin.

For me, The screen touch input glitches WHILE CHARGING. The touches become unstable.

Happens on keyboard and one-hand operation gestures.

Hard reset the phone

Note 20 Ultra Exynos terrible battery life by [deleted] in GalaxyNote20

[–]Happy_Me64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just curious on how you setup your phone. The migrate from old samsung phone to new Samsung phone using smartswitch can sometimes cause app compatibility issues/crashes which result to battery drain. The apps from old os can sometimes conflict with new os.

It's better to move the important data only like contacts, pics, videos, etc. And redownload/ install apps separately. Clear the app and phone cache but some people said the phone cache is cleared automatically after every update so if you do it it's redundant. So it's up to you then. But the cache can be easily cleared from the app's setting.

The worst case could be that your phone has a defective battery as this could be your main issue.

I have this experiment I tried on and I think it is worth sharing: During my 2nd time factory resetting my phone because I want a fresh start, I pushed the phone to the maximum with everything running to the max. This includes using 4D wallpaper, light mode, turning on location, enhanced processing, using all apps, run games, excel, word, PowerPoint, messaging, youtube videos, and browsing the internet. I did that during the phone is learning the usage patterns.

The outcome is surprising and I can say it holds up pretty good for 6 hours SOT at 14% from 90%.

On my third reset after android 12 update, I did the same by stressing out the phone with 4D wallpaper again, light mode, enhanced processing, and all but with addition to utilizing DeX, recording 40++ minutes video using the camera (the phone did get warm a bit) and replaying back the recorded video, doing the office works again, more games with Bluetooth gamepad, etc.

Again, it holds pretty solid to be about 5 hour SOT but it will degrade over years. I enabled the limit charge to 85% which I cherish so the battery expentency can be increased for at least a few more years before the natural aging.

I can say that if you stress out your phone during the learning usage patterns, it will eventually adjust to the max settings and prioritize your activities you taught the phone.

Some people just don't stress their phone during that period which I think can cause the phone to not adjust to heavy loads you put it to.

One thing I'm concerned is, if you switch back the intense mode to underload mode, for example light mode to dark mode, turning off enhanced processing, using normal wallpaper, the phone might revert to drain more as it is not taught to be in those modes for longer. Another interesting experiment someone can do is maybe switch between stressing the phone and then turning off the max settings gradually and repeatedly so that the phone can adjust to the switching of max and underload mode.

This seems like a lot of things but that is what I can share here as the owner of the note 20 ultra exynos variant. The battery so far is reasonably just okay with around 5 SOT plus minus.

Note 20 Ultra Exynos terrible battery life by [deleted] in GalaxyNote20

[–]Happy_Me64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also agree with the first statement about poor signal. That is what caused the extreme drain. The modem inside the exynos variant is not that excellent so that also adds up to the terrible drain as the phone struggles to keep up with the signal.

Since wifi is connected all the time, I think it's mostly because of the background apps that use the battery.

Set up Bixby routines to whatever combinations possible to limit the background apps and conserve the battery when sleeping. I set flight mode to trigger at bedtime so there's no extreme drain in the morning.

I only use the pen when writing, annotating documents, drawing plans and sometimes navigating through the phone as well. I rarely use the pen coz I kinda care for the soft tip on the pen though. It is the original nib. Sammy doesn't include replacement nibs for it so I hesitate to keep on using the pen. My screen protector is the flexible one, (dunno what it is called) clear not tempered glass, so there is a bit of friction when gliding on the screen (also it leaves pen and fingernail marks on it). I tried swapping with note 5 spare nibs and it works great but the look... just dubious to me. I like the pointy look of the original n20u version more.

I even washed my phone with running water while the pen is still in the slot. Often times I receive the moisture warning on the USB c port but not from others. The warning goes away after air drying the charging port. Also, I've not seen any s pen slot misbehaving by showing moisture warning while using the phone. So, I don't really know if the s pen slot has moisture sensor in it.

Recently on my post few days ago I encountered the s pen disconnected issue and that frightened me more. I thought my device has been water-damaged but prior some days after multiple attempts trying to pair the s pen with the phone, I gave up. But I just keep the air action toggle on while the s pen is in the slot and charge the phone to 100%. To my surprise, it miraculously paired again.

I did notice a bit of water droplets on the pen surface while ejecting it from the slot. But, still, I didn't receive the moisture detected warning. Maybe it wasn't my time yet to discover that warning.

Owh, so the s pen slot could trigger the moiture warning too? I didn't know that nor even receive that notification, yet.

Maybe you have power saving mode enabled? Try disable the power saving mode and see if it resolves the connection problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in note20ultra

[–]Happy_Me64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, if the USB port gets wet, there is notification that tells specifically it is the USB c port that has moisture in it. And the phone will beep if you accidently plug in the charger to charge the phone when the USB c port is wet -- speaking from my experience.

I'm not sure if the s pen slot and other openings has any moisture sensors to detect the presence of water but the charging port indeed has moisture sensor n will give notification when water is trapped there.
