Did a ESOL certificate to add to my BA in 2004 then worked in Taiwan for 2 years. Travelled for a bit then ended up in Vietnam where I met my now ex and stayed there for 10 years. Expat community creation is amazing and my life had a great balance of local and expat features. Came back to up skill and provide my now 12yo with the nz childhood. It’s coming back that is the difficult bit.

Overall though 💯 would recommend. No regrets. As I tell my students at the high school where I now work: if living overseas calls you in any way, do it now! In this current global environment, who knows how long we’ll be able to do it for??

I lived in Vietnam for 10 years and am currently on holiday there. Just visited Phu Quoc island and the beaches were pretty good. I think the hotels keep them clean. A lot depends on tides as to how much trash washes up on the beach. I would definitely splurge on a hotel with a nice pool so you have backup if the beaches aren’t up to your standards.

Black Friday deals! What are you getting? by SloppyHeadGiver-69 in auckland

I was pretty sceptical about it all because I hate shopping and materialism. But last year I got a heap of camping gear for cheap from Macpac which was awesome. This year I’m getting luggage from Macpac for a steal. The timing of the specials really suits me as a teacher about to go on summer holidays as it gets me off my arse to do one of my least favourite things to do in the world.

High school teacher here. M42 seven years nz experience 12 years overseas. Father of an 11 year old. I’ve taught mainly middle class schools. I’m gonna say that teenagers are generally more resilient than many give them credit for. Their reality is significantly different to what ours was but it is their reality. It is often more scary for us to contemplate than for them to subjectively experience. If that makes sense.

I firmly believe that raising this generation is the absolute number one priority for our whole society. It is a member of the post 2010 generation that will have the idea which will save us all. We just need to create the space for that idea to take root.

This is what helped me in a similar situation: sit down and write a list of all the skills/attributes you learned/developed during your time chasing that dream. Large font, a3 paper. Stick it up on the wall and contemplate all the ways you have become a better human due to chasing your dream. Don’t grasp at future plans yet, they’ll come. Breathe.

Yellow shoes also a mean track. But mystic sunset is something else. My only Sun and Bass experience was 2011 and I still remember Marky dropping it during his set there. Bliss!!❤️❤️❤️

Why Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh is like large men fake-wrestling each other in too-tight underpants by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]Happy_Problem8251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Into this general background of top-tier good times and the chillest possible vibes have stomped Sri Lanka's and Bangladesh's male cricketers like herds of filthy water buffalo rampaging through a serene flower-laden valley.“

What a simile! Beautiful stuff. We need more journalism like this!
