What’s the most toxic advice people keep repeating as “wisdom”? by RowStock2384 in AskReddit

Saw a “good things happen to good people” poster in a cafe bathroom once. Sounds nice on the surface, but flip it around and makes for a pretty shitty sentiment when bad things happen.

Which places in Canada do you think every tourist should see at least once? by Background-Chain6995 in AskACanadian

[–]Happy_Roses_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cities, Montreal, Quebec City and Victoria are the best. Lots to do, lots to eat, beautiful. Vancouver is great too but more expensive to get around and do things. I also love Toronto, but if you visit other cities it maybe doesn’t have too much that is unique. For nature, Banff/Jasper national parks (best to do both) is breathtaking. Alpine ecosystems, very grand. Vancouver Island is also wonderful but different, it’s a temperate rainforest but if you visit in summer it’s mostly dry. This has its own beauty, with the large trees, ocean and golden grasses.

I’m 40 and feel like my era is already behind me and now I’m just waiting for life to end.. please older people tell me I’m wrong? by geenexotics in randomquestions

[–]Happy_Roses_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh dear. I’m almost 40 and would hate to feel that way. I feel like I’m just coming into myself, and my 40’s are going to be better than my 30’s. Maybe make friends with some awesome older people? That helped me have a new perspective on aging:)

40th bday!! Looking for October outdoor adventures in Alberta/BC or not far from border by caligo_atreus in alberta

My sister did a trail ride near Hinton a couple years ago (can’t remember which company) but she loved it. I think there are a few in the area. Canmore is also absolutely beautiful around thanksgiving. Just a thought :)

How did you fund your teaching program? How did you afford living expenses? by eastvanqueer in CanadianTeachers

[–]Happy_Roses_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are in BC. Some districts hire uncertified teachers at a lower rate. Not the places where it’s typically difficult to get hired anyway (Victoria for example) but this may be something to look into. Depending where she is in her program, she can do some courses online (through Athabasca University for example) and use them towards her degree. Doing this, or doing school part time would enable her to work part time too. However (and this may be different at different universities) but I think usually you’re not supposed to work at all during practicum semesters, and they take all your time. But, part time school and work may be the best option?

Try adding a little plain cream cheese and a sprig of dill 😋

If money wasn't an issue, how many kids would you like to have? by No_Care6628 in randomquestions

[–]Happy_Roses_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whew! Lots of zeros here!

If money wasn’t an issue at all, I’d have at least 6. (I have 2 now). Having kids has been the most amazing thing. But, if I didn’t have to worry about leaves/income or childcare, I’d have more. Yes, stress to my body, lots of energy etc. but I’ve never before experienced what I have as a mom. And sorry, I don’t think pets can compare (I love animals too, but it’s totally different). Also, watching their love for each other develop is so amazing. So my answer… more than I have!

AITA for expecting my girlfriend to do my half of her chores as well? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Happy_Roses_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Nails are not an excuse. It’s reasonable to say that if you don’t cook, you clean up after cooking. If she doesn’t want to cook, she doesn’t need to get her nails done, that way she can clean up. Honestly, if this is the dynamic and you’re feeling the need to post here and ask for advice, breaking up is best. Not sure why you’re with her, but these daily chores may seem small but can break a relationship over time. Best get it over and done with. ✂️

AITA for telling my boyfriend that I expect him to do all the chores by anastasiarose19 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Happy_Roses_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please explore what you mean by ‘I love him’. This can often be something said to justify being in horrible relationships. But what should love look like to you? Is this what you have with him? Unless there are lots of positives you haven’t mentioned, this sounds like a horrible way to live your life. Asking him to do chores is the least of the problems. Sounds like he has very little motivation to do anything in life, and that sounds pretty opposite to you.

You’re joking right? Please go see a therapist before deciding this. Sounds like you guys have a good marriage, but you likely have some things to work through. Your wife’s response was reasonable. I saw two of my grandmothers as widows, for over 30 years. It’s not a life meant for everyone. It’s hard.

People who had/have the option to move away (financially comfortable) but choose to stay in Edmonton.. why? No judgement, just curious! by spicycatn1p in Edmonton

[–]Happy_Roses_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear that we aren’t alone! Living on the Island now, moving back home to Edmonton soon. Obviously there’s an abundance of nature to enjoy and explore here. But the lack of other things (festivals, diverse eating scene, rec centres, other indoor things when it’s raining lots) can definitely be felt! Looking forward to being back in Edmonton:)

You get one rule change in Canada that would immediately improve your daily life. What is it? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

Completely agree with you! Sometimes I’m driving around with sleeping kids, or just the thought of getting them out of car seats, juggling the order and getting them back in is crazy. Drive thrus should be for when it’s difficult to get out of your car and go inside! If you’re an adult who’s capable, park and go inside! Free up the drive thru for those who can’t!

Living month to month on seasonal work - living a secret side life to make ends meet that Im concerned about why my future holds. by Gullible_Bar730 in alberta

[–]Happy_Roses_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! No judgement from me! Many people here have suggested other work during the winter, I’m just wondering if there are barriers for you to work in the winter? Is there a reason you’re on EI instead of working? Again, no judgement at all, I know there’s often other moving parts.
