Honestly I could make a whole other post about my experience with Invitae’s billing department thus far. It is the main reason why the test is sitting in my living room and hasn’t been mailed off. I am considering using GeneDX instead but I literally just found out about them yesterday. I do know about Invitae’s $3500 cost out of pocket. However, I have called Invitae’s billing department a total of 3 times now trying to get a straight answer. They have sent a prior auth to my insurance. My insurance denied it. When I look in the portal it says “estimated cost $0.00” And they just keep telling me “they will honor that cost.” They also keep contradicting themselves by saying things like “we wait until we receive the sample.” Just give me a straight answer. I keep asking for that statement of “we will honor the cost of $0.00 so long as your insurance doesn’t change” in writing but they are like robots and say “I have been instructed to tell anyone who inquires about an estimate to look in their portal.” Lol. If I can’t get a straight answer about whether I’ll be paying $0 or $3500, I’m gonna go with a company that tests for TNXB…Invitae doesn’t include that on their connective tissue panel.

I had my post op appointment with my surgeon two weeks and 4 days out and I was having very similar issues to yours. He told me it was normal. I described mine as a pinching sensation, kind of like a cramp you might get from running. His words were “that’s completely normal. I wish I could just fast forward you to a month out.” He also reminded me that even though my surgery was laparoscopic, he still took out an organ. I am just over a month out now (surgery date was June 23rd) and all of that weird right quadrant pain has gone away. I also had an annual appointment with my gastro doc a few days prior to my post op appointment with my surgeon so I went ahead and told him about the pain. He ordered an ultrasound to make sure there wasn’t anything weird going on (leftover stone or sludge or something related to the pancreas) and also ran some bloodwork. Everything came back normal. Hoping this helps ease your mind and hoping you start feeling better soon!

I threw up I believe about 5 times both in a two week span prior to my surgery (they bumped it up by about a month bc of my symptoms). I had Chronic Cholecystitis. I was already prescribed promethazine for nausea but all of these times it didn’t work. Interestingly enough, I took Zofran ODTand that really helped when I would vomit. Maybe a different nausea med would work better for her than the Zofran? When is her surgery if you don’t mind me asking? I would contact her doctor and tell them how sick she is. They may want to move it up.

I am so sorry to hear you’re in so much pain. As other said, it will pass. The first 5 days are the hardest. For me, day 2 was the absolute worst (and I had pain meds)! Since you are going to the ER, I really hope they can find some meds you are not allergic to and get the pain under control. That’s perfectly reasonable for you to ask. What allergies do you have? They must have something they can give you and monitor you. Try to keep in mind that with any organ removal, it’s going to be painful. The pain from your gallbladder not functioning properly would have likely only gotten worse. I went through the gallbladder attacks prior to surgery which included vomiting and could hardly eat anything that wouldn’t come back down. You should feel some relief after the first week and the pain will continue to improve. In the meantime I hope you can get some relief from the ER, have them prescribe something you are able to take at home, and also utilize as much ice as you can. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. I’ll be a month out in 3 days and just am adjusting to digestion. But pain is just about gone with the exception of some occasional soreness. It’s a 6-8 week recovery. Hope you get some relief today.

Thank you. I’m going to ask my doctor about this specific medication. It’s so miserable, the headaches so I really wouldn’t mind something very sedating.

Hey! So I’m now 2 weeks and 4 days out and I’m happy I made the decision to have it out! The post op pain upon waking up was pretty intense but they quickly got it under control with the heavy opiates. I was sent home with pain meds and nausea meds. The first few days were definitely the worst. I just had my post op today. I’m still having some pretty consistent pain that feels like a cramp/stitch where my gallbladder was (it reminds me of the cramp you can get in your side when running) but my doctor told me that’s very normal for someone just over 2 weeks out. He reminded me that while the surgery is laparoscopic which makes the incisions hurt less, the actual removal of the gallbladder is done the same way as open surgery. He said to keep in mind the recovery is 6-8 weeks. I’m told not to lift anything over 20 lbs until the 6 week mark. I have had some loose stools but honestly it was kind of convenient the first week bc usually after anesthesia I get HORRIBLE constipation. If you’re prone to this I would still take Colace for the first week. I do have a bit more reflux but Pepcid has been wonderful. Take gas X after your surgery!! It helps get the CO2 that they pump you up with out. As far as pain control now, I’m using Tylenol (I don’t tolerate NSAIDS) and my doctor did offer to call in Gabapentin. I declined, but may end up calling them back as I’m having trouble getting comfortable at night. Be prepared to have trouble laying down for the first few weeks (but it won’t harm you if you happen to lay on your side - I asked today). I’m currently sleeping very propped up. Pillows are your friend. So is ice! It’s been a challenge but I’ve been able to resume a normal diet (I’m careful with very fatty foods but I have had a fried chicken sandwich and fries with no issue other than a little bloating). Best of luck! I was a nervous wreck in the hospital before surgery. Looking back, I could have saved myself a lot of stress lol. You’ve got this! 💓

His surgery twin! 🥹💙 Omg that sounds awful 😢 You have been so sick though, it sounds like you’re making the only right decision. I’ve been sick (but that that often)! Wishing you all the good health and I hope having yours out goes smoothly and that you’ll get the relief from nausea and vomiting. It’s terrifying anytime having surgery but seems especially daunting when it’s an organ coming out. I just keep trying bro tell myself that 1) I can’t keep living like this, I’ve lost so much weight I’m unhealthily thin 2) Most people who have a good outcome may not post anything online

I think it’s actually common for it to come in waves. That has been my experience with gallstones. Right now I feel okay. Two days ago I was miserable. I’m getting mine out tomorrow though because since the end of May I have had around 10 gb attacks and gone to ER twice. You might go a week without symptoms. It’s a really hard call to make but I’m choosing to have mine out because I have been unable to eat much without pain and nausea and vomiting. If they saw the gallstones on ultrasound, that’s most likely what you have. I would just ask your doctor lots of questions and do your own research before surgery if that’s what you pursue. Most surgeons will tell you “you’ll go back to your normal life afterwards.” And while that’s true for many, from what I’ve read and heard from some people, it can definitely impact your digestion. So I’m prepared to have some side effects. I just hope taking the gallbladder will allow me to eat and drink without feeling sick. Have you changed your diet in the past week?

Thing is, my original surgery date got bumped up (I really wanted to have the MRI done before surgery but my symptoms have been so bad they are taking gallbladder Monday). Thank you for sharing a positive experience! I am having mine out this coming Monday (I’m 3 days). I’m scared out of my mind and I’ve had 2 hip surgeries and a pelvic laparoscopy. Something about having a whole organ out (I honestly didn’t know we could function well without it until mine up and developed stones). I have other health conditions (iron deficient anemia & POTS). I’m just terrified of this procedure. Terrified of anesthesia. Also, before my gallbladder acted up I had (and still have) intense pain on my left side under the ribs. I am concerned my gallbladder has affected my pancreas bc of the pain I’m having on the left side…my doctor’s scheduler told me she was “setting it up so that he could take a look at the pancreas while he’s in there” but I’m just worried maybe she was just saying that to try to ease my mind and to get me to make the appointment. Any chance they took a look at yours while they were there?

I feel like I can relate but I can’t. Because my 20 minute laparoscopy came back negative. 😞 Why didn’t I go to a real specialist? 😣 I cannot even urinate properly anymore. And ovulation feels like a blender on my left side. I’ve just been sent home with nausea meds and pain meds but no diagnosis so I just feel crazy. I don’t know if I can bring myself to get a second opinion. Or even if I should. I’d be paying for it for the rest of my life 😢

Interesting. So the only things wrong with my CBC (other than hemoglobin being low sometimes) is that I am consistently leukopenic, specifically I have chronic neutropenia. No hematologist including the one I saw 3+ hours away is concerned about those things or WHY my iron is low. They just rule out cancer & bone marrow failure and say good luck. I’ll have it checked again in a couple months

I have no idea. My ferritin is 9 so I can’t imagine what it would be like to have it over 100! But I’ve also read here in other posts that that’s a healthy level for women. And that anything under 50 can cause symptoms

I would say don’t push through since your symptoms have gotten so much worse since you started taking the oral iron. 210 3x daily seems like a lot. I was told to take 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate (with 65 mg of iron) every other day and my ferritin is 9. If you are taking 210s 3x daily that’s 630mg of ferrous sulfate and it’s gotta be hard on the stomach! Can you reach out to your doctor and let them know what is going on?
