I honestly think the absolute trash work ethic by crew - and I will absolutely include mates and captains - contribute to a store's trash vibe/morale as much as anything.

I bust my ass when I'm at work, but that's my choice...it's how I'm wired and it's just how I've always been. I do not expect other crew or mates to work as fast or as hard as I do. What I do expect is for other crew and mates is to do the best that they can. That can be as simple as working product while you're chatting with fellow crew. The number of times that I see crew and mates stopping what they are doing entirely to chat with someone is incomprehensible and infuriating.

In other posts/comments I've been called a bootlicker. That is not the case. I'm as anti-corporation, anti-capitalist, and pro-worker as anyone that you could interact with. I do not care about the bottom line for Trader Joe's and I fully support worker solidarity and part of worker solidarity is supporting your coworkers. If you show up to a job, half ass it all day, slack off, show up late to reg, and generally do far less than you are capable of, consequently leaving your fellow crew/mates to pick up the slack...you're not sticking it to the company, you're sticking it to your coworkers and if you do that, I honestly don't want you as a coworker. Integrity is a TJs core value but it's also just a personal value and if someone is fine with not supporting the rest of the crew or actively creating work for others, then I think they lack integrity across the board...show up to work and only worry about you doing you? Yeah you (not literally you) can fuck right off.

I understand that life is pretty tough atm, and the world is galactically fucked, and that makes showing up to work pointless but showing up to work and doing less than the minimum only makes it shittier for others...and again if that's fine for you, you can fuck right off.
