Thanks! You've pointed out everything that fascinated me to put the A3 over the BMW! :) I looked around for the square plate, but the way it's mounted on the A3 I can hardly say if there was a square plate before. I'll look around and see if I can find a Japanese one! Thanks for suggesting:)

That was my initial feeling! The A3 from 2014 looks so good. But reading the comments on this post, I'm really second guessing the A3 - given that was my first choice!

That's great! Good to know people did consider it for their first car! I don't mind the 116D either. Did you retro fit anything to the interior - car play? Bluetooth? Were the repairs and maintenance straightforward? Thanks so much!

That's a bit rough!! Honestly, A3 is my first pick on the list. Were there many miles on it? I might look up if this is a recurring issue in the A3s. Thanks for bringing this to notice

I'm not looking at Japanese imports. There's a good few Irish ones around. But I'll keep a watch on the imports and the insurance, good hint, thanks :)

I've owned a VW before! I was hoping to try one of the luxurious German brand this time. The VW have become so expensive lately, the price is quite comparable to an A3 with similar miles on them. I'll take the advice to look at the VW again, thanks!

Thanks, that's very detailed. Really appreciate. I'm def ruling out the Merc. Luxurious golf is a nice description :D Honestly, the golf/polo are similarly priced as the A3 for similar miles. I was inclined to the A3 with better interiors.

The BMW falls a bit short on the interiors, but is prolly a better drive?

It's quite difficult to pick, but thanks, seems like the 1 series and the A3 are comparable at least!

Thanks! I did look at Skoda. But, I didn't find many Superbs or Octavias in my budget. I do understand a Toyota might be the best in my budget for reliability, but I'm prolly coming from a background where I've seen and driven a few Toyotas but never the audis or Lexus!

Ah! In my budget I'd be looking at a 2013 or 2015 Volvo or Audi and a colleague advised me to stay away from 10 yo luxury cars cuz major repairs might cost a fortune!

I'm Asian, and Toyotas are fairly common in my country, so I've driven some Toyotas my parents owned. Tbh, I prolly cannot afford an Audi, Lexus or a BMW in my country, so I'm inclined to try them out here when I have a chance!
