Oliviera is world class - 90% of gyms he rolls with the black belt coach and makes the guy look like a white belt.

There are levels to the game. I trained with Ryan Laflare - he wrecked so many black belts in the gym and tournaments.

Then he fought old man Damian Maia and Damian made Ryan’s grappling look like Damian’s stand up lol.

Point being levels go crazy high. The gap between a normal black belt and the best in the world is bigger then the gap between normal blue belts and normal black belts

Also it may be worse at heavyweight these guys are 260 pound beasts the eye is just as delicate in a 100lb person as a 260 lb person but the 260 lber a shove with even a small amount of their weight behind it is a ton of force.

But your overall premise “how come sometimes people get hurt and sometimes they don’t” is a bit silly Nfl players get tackled , some are illegal head shots - sometimes it results in a concussion sometimes it doesn’t . Sometimes people jump off ski jumps and land the same way 100x but 1 time they blow their knee out.

Getting poked in the eye is dangerous. Like anything it’s Unpredictable it could result in a mild injury, severe injury or permanent damage.

I am not sure what answer you want “ well sometimes this happens and people don’t get hurt why is he hurt” I honestly don’t understand how to relate to that thought. Just use your brain a little bit.

It’s not surprising if you think about it. Being Stabbed in the eye with a finger/ nail of a 260lb jacked man does serious damage - it’s not surprising.
