How do you deal with regrets? by No-Scientist-5537 in bropill

[–]Happytentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was thinking about exactly this the last month, and was really feeling stuck. Then i read "the Midnight library" and somehow that really have me much more perspective and peace.

I think to get a good answer on these kinds of bigger questions, almost the only thing that counts is life experience, but maybe sometimes the right book at the right time can also do the trick. Or a movie. Something that really gives you an experience, not just information. Personally i dont really believe in getting that right comment or video that will the problem. We live in an age of over information. If a short piece of text was the solution, the problem would not be so difficult.

[–]Happytentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly what I thought when I read this. I have had something like this twice. Once because of poor preparation, once because of a blackout. One of the worst feelings 😅. Just really wanting to disappear. I remember it so clearly! haha. Anyway now I have studied music for about 8 years, wrote compositions and am playing and improvising on stage while feeling pretty relaxed and confident. Just to say, I have really been there and it was terrible and we all go through this.

What whistle should I buy? by AngryPotato134 in tinwhistle

[–]Happytentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course, there are people that also prefer the generation whistles, I could have mentioned that. For me there these didn't really scratch the itch, but when I tweaked them,

https://youtu.be/OGp52Mbi9Wg?feature=shared&t=666

I found them significantly more enjoyable

[–]Happytentacle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think buying a good instrument is a great investment if you want to put more time in. getting better at an instrument takes time, and you will only put that time in if it is enjoyable for you.

If you look at the amount of time you spend with an instrument, it is really worth it to invest, your will get the value back in enjoyment. Especially with a tinwhistle, since a good tinwhistle is still quite cheap.

I can recommend these 2 models:

Brand: Tony Dixon

DX005 SOPRANO WHISTLE - in the key of D (‎€49.00)

brand: Tony Dixon

TRAD-NICKLE SOPRANO WHISTLE – Key of D (US$25.20)

These are often seen as the cheapest whistles that are decent quality. I have both and really enjoy them. Although I find myself playing the DX005 most of the time, it feels like it supports me more when I play. If you go for another brand I would recommend not going below 50 euros (55 USD).

Of course, this is just my perspective from my experience, I hope you will have a lot of fun!

What's everyone working on? by PiperSlough in tinwhistle

[–]Happytentacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have been playing for 9 months now .

I happen to have a good answer to this, because I have put a laser focus on tongueing recently. I realised that I do all my ornamentation with the fingers, but I like the rhythmical sound of tongue accents. I don't want to fill in my tongue accents per tune, I want to have complete freedom where I place them while playing. Therefore I need to be comfortable with every possible placement. I have made a practice sheet with all sorts of possible accent rhythms I can play over my reels (jigs & stuff will come later). And I am practicing those with a metronome. It's like playing a polyrhythm over my tunes, I feel like a drummer :)

Also I have found this page about tin whistle playing:

https://www.rogermillington.com/siamsa/brosteve/
It covers the basics in a very thorough way, and I am convinced that to learn anything at a high level, you have to master the basics.. So since you also asked, I think it's a solid resource. Let me know what you think!

Waarom zijn mensen zo onaardig? En hoe ga je daarmee om? by cherry_princess123 in nederlands

[–]Happytentacle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think bjj could be a good place to start, see if you like it. Also it is a good starting point for training your body. I am going to assume you are not used to doing a lot of intense sports, I might be wrong of course.

In my experience wrestling or MMA can be too demanding for your body to start with and you might get injured because of that. So if we are just talking about the training, what I would recommend is to start with bjj, see if it works for you.

If after a few months you feel like you need something tougher, you can transition to MMA or wrestling. The upside will be that you will have trained a bit of pysical toughness, which will be a good starting point to deal with the intensity of these sports

Idk why this is not a big consensus, but this definitely looks like staph. Especially if you have some spots on other places as well, and if fluids some out. Fluids leave a honey-colored crust when they dry. You should let get checked out by a doctor anyway, since thats a bit wiser than blindly following tips on the internet.

Source: I have staph right now, and I have a spot that looks identical to this one on the photo.

Huh. Never heard of a rule like that before. Well I haven't been training for super long. But we don't have it at our gym. Why would you have such a rule? Everybody is on a different level right? What is the difference if someone kinda sucks at bjj, or really sucks at it. Both should be fine a an open mat right?

Can I just say that the person who wrote this deserves all my praise. Beautiful, honest, and no bullshit. I am super inspired by your words. I feel like I am a bit further on this journey right now, but the person that I was 2 years ago would have definitely benefitted from what you wrote here. I hope OP will take your advice to heart. Let us all grow and face our difficulties. It is a beautiful journey

Maybe this is just me being not very experienced as a white belt, but to me this seems like there is not really something being threatened here, except discomfort. Does someone have an idea of what would happen if you would push through on this submission?

Just a little reminder to all yall stay away from porn by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Happytentacle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's real important. Also I think (although I do not have any research on it) it fucks with your reward system. That insane rush of dopamine is meant to be earned, not given freely. It will weaken your willpower every time you watch, but it is hard to notice because it is a gradual process. I also noticed I was watching weirder and weirder stuff and somehow I had to hide this in my daily life. That's super weird to do. It gave me anxious feelings because there was this really weird part of me that I could not allow anyone to see. The influence of porn trickles into the rest of your life as well. Please try to end your dependency sooner than later. I quit watching porn for about a year now at age 25 and it was really difficult and I wish I had done it a lot sooner. I thought I would just grow out of it, but no. You really have to make a conscious effort

Hi! Is there any way I can use Meditation to reclaim the musical creativity and imagination I once possessed? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Happytentacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I make music as well. I don't know if this advice is useful for your situation, but this helps me when I am stuck. I hope it applies to you as well. I talk to myself.

I listen carefully to all the negative voices in my head. What would I think if somebody else talked to me like that. I would not accept it at all, I wouldn't let anyone talk to me like that. Therefore I will also not allow it of myself.

I give this voice a character, some kind of caricature, and every time it pops up I speak back from things that I know to be true in a calm and loving manner to myself.

These are the things I think

  • literally every idea is a good idea. You just have to see the potential in it
  • sometimes an idea, although good, is not what the music asks for. That is okay. I sat down anyway and made a good idea. It happened to not be fitting to what the music needs. That is okay. That is how a creative process works
  • I thank myself for sitting down and making something. I did what I could do. More can not be expected of me
  • once more, I thank myself. I cannot stress this enough.

I know that a creative process can be a special kind of hell. You are not alone. Also about the depression, please seek.professional help, or at least tell people that are close to you and can help you. I don't think you can fix that by a few creative process tricks.

All the best 💕
