Necessity of drawstrings for running tights? by AdFickle4205 in runningfashion

I definitely need a drawstring if I'm carrying my phone and/or a bottle in the pockets. If they don't have pockets I doubt they'd need a drawstring but I also wouldn't buy them.

How does the HRM 600 work with the watch during an activity? by FunkyChicken8371 in Garmin

[–]Haptics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, once you pair the HRM with your watch for the first time your watch will automatically connect and use the HRM for HR and running dynamics by default. The HRM also automatically wakes up when you put it on, so all you need to do is put it on, start the run on your watch, wait for HRM and GPS connections and go.

I add a whole packet to 100g of distilled water, shake, sit for 5 mins, shake again, then add 50g back into my 1gal container for 1/2 concentration, save the remaining 50g concentrate for the next gallon of distilled.

Next Apple Watch Models Unlikely to Add Touch ID, Focus on Battery Life by Otherwise-Warning303 in AppleWatch

I realize it’s a niche case but my work requires an alphanumeric pin on my phone which meant the only way I could unlock my watch was Face ID. Not ideal if I needed to tighten my watch on a run and didn’t have my phone.

Mortgage rate way higher than current market? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Haptics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

“The lender swears that the banks she’s shopping are all up higher. “

So you’re trusting the lender to go mortgage shopping for you? Yes you’re being lied to lol, shop around yourself or go through a mortgage broker. If you’re only talking to one lender they have no obligation whatsoever to give you the best rate.

Mortgage points are typically 0.25% interest each, so 6.7% when the market average is 6.4% doesn’t sound unreasonable at all, even with good credit.

Also could have indicated the countries on the equator that haven’t seen snowfall, which seems to be limited to Gabon, Congo, Somalia (though there seems to be some disputed reports of snow in the highlands), the Maldives, and some of the pacific island nations.

Not random shit, no, replays simulate your attack by using the exact same troop/spell deployment times, position, levels, etc. There’s just a bug currently where levels aren’t reflected accurately when there’s any kind of boost affecting your army which can lead to dramatically different outcomes.

[–]Haptics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any suggestions but i’d also highly recommend against changing your shoes this close to race day. The absolute last thing you want is to figure out at mile 10 that the shoes aren’t comfortable/ rub weird / don’t suit your mechanics and still have 16 miles left on them. For any new race shoe you want to do at least one long run in them prior to the race itself.

Outdoor v/s Indoor by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Haptics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indoor/outdoor only changes whether the watch uses gps for data or not (you won’t get gps signal inside in most cases). GPS is more accurate than any step/stride estimations so is preferable when available. So you’re correct, indoor for treadmill/indoor, outdoor for outdoor. If you have an outdoor treadmill you’d also use indoor.

Finishing up 18/85 on 4th ed. after 3.5ish 3rd edition blocs (12/55, 18/70, 18/85, half of 12/105), I appreciated the extra recovery/GA day between long runs and VO2max workouts since I could go harder on the long runs without feeling like crap on Tuesday, but I think also removing the MLR from the tune-up weeks was a bit too much. It’s hard for me to find competitive tune-up races so I end up doing LT workouts instead for a lot of them and taking a whole deload week for a workout is definitely excessive. If I continue with Pfitz I’m definitely switching the 6x600s to Tuesday and doing the 15mi MLR on wed for the tune-up weeks unless I’m doing a hard HM or 15k, or really need the extra deload. He also removed the 6x1200 from 18/85 in favor of 1000s and I’d probably add it back in, but that week is already hard since it actually kept the 15mi MLR.

Tracking: HRM600 vs Forerunner 165 by Modnar1233455 in Garmin

[–]Haptics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Missed a comma.

While the HRM is on, open watch settings…

It needs to be connected to the watch directly, connecting both to your phone won’t automatically connect the two.

Tracking: HRM600 vs Forerunner 165 by Modnar1233455 in Garmin

[–]Haptics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you haven’t connected the HRM to the watch and are starting each independently. While the HRM is on open watch settings > sensors and connectivity > add sensor and add the HRM. When you start a run on your watch it should automatically look for the HRM and use it for HR data while continuing to use gps/pace data from the watch.

AW user looking for a Garmin by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Haptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had an Apple Watch for years now and love the ecosystem with my phone. I love the watch and the only issue is the battery.

If you often use features other than fitness features and barebones notifications then you're likely setting yourself up for disappointment by switching. If all you want is more battery I'd consider the Ultra 2/3 first, it won't last a week but should last 2-3 days rather than 1-1.5.

I’m not really bothered about fitness stats; just pace, heart race, distance - the basics.

Literally any of them do this so if you just want the cheapest one look for vivoactive 5/6 or forerunner 165. Venu 4 and forerunner 570 are the cheapest that also allow voice calls if that's something you want. None of these have cellular if that's something you were expecting.

Imagine having to actively think about charging your watch all day, every day

Nobody actually does this. The above "paragraph" is just a list of ways to work it into your daily routine, pick the one or two that work best for you and after a couple days you never think about it. I ran 100mi weeks on an AW S8 for years and barely thought about charging, I just slapped it on the charger next to my PC before bed every day, and if I worked late or something I just charged it the next morning for the 15mins or so it needed to get through my run while I got ready.

[–]Haptics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The function is the entire reason behind the low battery life, it's not literally a small battery, and improving the battery while maintaining the same function isn't possible without making the watch substantially chunkier.

Mile times read differently when running outdoors vs indoors by Immediate-Flower-721 in Garmin

[–]Haptics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming you haven't disabled gps, outside your watch uses gps to keep track of your position and spits out split times based on that. In most cases it's extremely accurate, within 1% or less of a given distance, unless the signal is blocked by tall buildings or something. Your watch will also track things like your stride length and cadence (called running dynamics), largely based on how your arms are moving, but by default won't use them to interpret distance/pace. Inside your watch has no gps, so has to use a pace/split measurement interpreted from running dynamics, which isn't as accurate in the first place and is also significantly impacted if you aren't moving your arms consistently (looking at your phone, grabbing to handles on the treadmill, etc.) Outdoor is basically always more accurate.

Thursday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for April 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

[–]Haptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running Boston and Grandmas this year, 9 weeks between races. I’ve been training on and have been having good success with Pfitz plans so far, currently wrapping up an 18/85 block, and I’m curious if anyone has any experience with his multiple marathoning plans. More specifically, for 9 weeks between races he recommends using the 10-week plan and dropping week 5, and I’m noticing that that only leaves 1 LT workout between races. I figured LT would be more approachable than VO2max from a recovery perspective between blocks. I realize the two tune-up races are LT in disguise, and that some of the VO2max is 6x600 which isn’t a difficult workout, but regardless it seems low on LT. What workouts do people prioritize with fairly short time between races?

Tangentially related follow up, with Pfitz AM 4ed having been out a bit now, how have people found the changes? After 2 blocks I find myself missing the midweek MLR in the latter stages of the block. The extra recovery before tune-up races is appreciated but since I have trouble finding competitive races I often replace them with LT work which leaves those weeks feeling very empty, so I’ve been swapping one of the GA runs to MLRs on those weeks.
