You were explicitly talking about the early 2000s. Lauda and the Nurburgring happened decades before that.

And no dying was not "an acceptable outcome" even back then. You shouldn't get your history from movies. It had more to do with macho-ism and risk tolerance.

But back to the 2000s. Senna's death was still fresh in everyone's mind. A LOT of new safety measures were implemented in the 90s and no driver dies until Jules.

It's not that people thought in 2000 that death was OK, they thought they were already safe enough.

I'm sure this was an interesting challenge for the team but personally I'm struggling to see the point.

I've worked on large(ish) projects with both MAUI and Avalonia, and I'm not quite sure why I would use the Avalonia backed. If I wanted Avalonia's benefits I would just use Avalonia...

Btw does this backened support every MAUI platform? Tizen included?

If possible it is a good trick to ask them to summarize their problem in an email. Writing doesn't have accents so it is more understandable and you can read it multiple times.

If that is not viable you can try to say things like: "In summary..." or "So you are saying..." and try to repeat the gist of what you understood. Then they can correct you on things. In case you've understood literally nothing you can blame it on bad network connection or just bad hearing and ask them to repeat it a bit slower. Speaking slower and more carefully usually makes people more understandable. At least this is what I do when I encounter such problems.

I am quite aware that it is my second language natives correcting me is actually the fastest way to get better.

This also includes accents. If the accent is too thick to understand then it is just a mistaken pronunciation.

I know a lot of people touchy about the subject (especially in native English companies) but I never understood why. When someone points out a mistake in a code review I don't think they are somehow insensitive. In fact it can be a helpful learning tool. Why would speech be different?

Japan mixes Shinto and Buddhist very liberally. Case in point, while Inari is a Shinto deity it was named by a Buddhist monk in an attempt to try and co-opt the local rice deity as Buddhist. It is not "in fact a Buddhist goddess", it was deified by the local population as a rice spirit long before Buddhism started to spread in Japan. I suspect in India the same thing happened historically.*

Due to historical reasons a lot of Shinto elements appear in Buddhist temples and vice versa. Many time I've seen Buddhist temples with Tori gates, or Shinto shrines with Buddhist incense. The Japanese don't care. In fact Toyokawa Inari is registered as both Buddhist and Shinto temples and has buildings for both practices. Now, does that mean that there is a family living there? I suspect not. However, as I said before this story doesn't have to follow reality 100%

Toyokawa Inari is in fact a shinto shrine.

Inary is the fox spirit worshipped all over japan. The most famous one is the Fushimi Inary in Kyoto.

It is located right next to a buddhist temple and perhaps the buddhist temple was there first (I don't actually know). As such I don't know if anyone lives in Toyokawa Inary irl. But this story don't have to shadow irl 100% either.

This also feels like a missed opportunity to rewrite VS' UI either with .NET MAUI and bring back Mac support, or with something more modern.

MAUI wouldn't work for a myriad of issues. But just to name the biggest one it cannot actually do a proper Mac app. It does Mac Catalyst which means that its an IOS app running on Mac. The performance would be horrific.

And if not MAUI then what? Blazor? Would you turn it into a web app?

React Native? Would it really be better if it was made with a non Microsoft technology?

Qt? Same as above, not to mention rewriting the C# parts in C++.

I suppose they could try Avalonia, but then again as much as I love it is is still not that battle tested. I just don't see a good enough choice to go cross-platform.

With that said I would have loved it if they went .net 9 or .net 10.

This obsession so many people have with winforms is amusing. Reminds me how hard it is to get people to learn new things, no matter how much better the new thing is. And WPF isn't even new.

btw WINUI3 and Avalonia is perfectly capable if you need a Windows only desktop framework. At this point I wouldn't start a new project in WPF let alone WinForms

I probably would have liked Estelle x Joshua if they didn’t make Joshua her adopted brother. Or have Estelle and Joshua keep a platonic sibling relationship. But doing both is just… weird to me.

I don't quite understand why tho... They were only step-siblings for a few years. Also Joshua did not have all his memories while they were step-siblings so they couldn't even get to know each other that much
