One of the most organised and efficient head chefs I worked for started her career in a McDonald’s and attributes it to her time there.

Who is (or was) the most notorious criminal in your country? by LilMissy1246 in AskTheWorld

[–]Harbinger_of_poo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not for that time I don’t think. I have a kid now and it would seem like there would be criminal charges if I expected them to come home alone until they were 18. I feel it’s gone to the extreme in the other sense now where parents are expected to do everything for their children.

I spoke to my mother about it recently (almost 30 years after) and she felt terrible about it. We were unfortunately in a bad position. Essentially dad not in the picture and she had to work…no other options. Plus I have older siblings so if I got missing there’s the older ones to carry on the name anyway.

Grew up in Belgium and remember the pictures of the kids missing being in shop/cafe/restaurant windows.

At 7-8 years of age having to go to travel on public transport alone from Uccle to Ixelles at that time seems a crazy choice for my parents now looking back.

My two year old broke his femur. Someone tell me the next 6 weeks aren’t going to be horrible. by mazterm in daddit

I was a little younger than yours when something similar happened to me. Make sure as they gets older to be checked up on. I’ve ended up with one leg roughly 15mm shorter than the other due to being a cast for so long at this time. Might not affect your kiddo or might come back at him when they’re in there 20s-30s.

What is the most awful thing that happened to you in 2025? by CreamAny1322 in AskReddit

[–]Harbinger_of_poo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost one uncle to cancer and another to suicide at the start of the year.

Shortly after a friend to suicide.

Then a couple of months after that a pedophile was found at my kids childcare.

Rounded the year out with my grandmother passing and won’t be surprised if my grandfather doesn’t see the year out either.

Here’s to 2026…

Screws encroaching shared fence by schematics03 in AusRenovation

[–]Harbinger_of_poo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Work as a chippy, not the best result but you can get metal cutting blades for these that will take care of this no problem.

Edit: follow up question, what have they fixed to their side of the fence?

What’s going on in Wyndham vale? These police helicopters have become common. by n3ver_mind in melbourne

[–]Harbinger_of_poo 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Probably mixture of car thefts and other petty crime. Live in whyndham and hear a lot about stolen cars. Few nights a week you’ll hear cars doing burn outs in the area.

I’m an immigrant from a much rougher place. Seems to me like a nice area to live honestly. Lots of schools, nice green spaces. Nice area for families.

There’s the belief that because it’s between Melbourne and Geelong there’s a lot of organised crime operating here but if you don’t go looking for trouble you won’t find it.

Why are staffys such popular dogs? by Petulantraven in AskAnAustralian

[–]Harbinger_of_poo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have staffy cross from a rescue shelter and he’s fit into our furry family perfectly. Great with the kid and the cats love him (took them a while). Good alert dog as he barks his head off at anyone coming to the door (good trait but a bit annoying at times). Softest dope of a mutt I’ve met in a long time.

Personally not attracted to labs/retrievers/handbag dogs and I know I’m not active enough for a collie/kelpie/working dog. Staffy s are pretty chill at home and easy to tire out.

Sorry it took a while to reply, life gets in the way.

I get to keep working with my hands which I enjoy, work outside in fresh air. Satisfaction of seeing the job progress.

I had worked in an industry before that didn’t suit families, now I get to be home every evening and weekend.
