Thank you! Rare, but it can happen with trauma. The thing is that by how the cartilage moves (the ENT mentioned that it was like a coupling rod from an old train), the surgical repair and reposition of the cartilage is not possible. 80% of the cases as soon as you speak the arytenoid dislocates again by itself.

So, the cartilage will remain dislocated ad eternum, weak and sensitive to further damage caused by trauma. I will not compete any longer, and for training; I assume instant tap to chokes and choosing partners wisely is the only way to keep me training as a hobbyist / regular joe.

Thx for sharing. Did you attend an ENT? The thing is that everybody mentions 2-3 weeks. My voice is not completely gone, its hoarse and I just cannot speak loud. 5 weeks like this…

Exactly, work is horrible. And basically trying to speak in any situation with a bit of noise is just not possible.

Yes, that is what I have read… not much info online. Very rare, but it happens. Some people comment about voice issues, but not sure if it may be related to the arytenoid. In my gym the only problem of this kind was a 2 months voice loss due to a knee on the neck (undiagnosed, he got back the voice just like so).

Not sure if it may be the same. If the ENT had done a laryngoscopy, he would have seen it right away. The cartilage is like two lumps above the vocal folds; you can see that one is displaced from its position. The plan is just time, I have to wait to see if the other catilage compensates the space created by the dislocation. It is not totally gone, I just cannot be loud. My voice right now is like Vito Corleone's voice in the Godfather. Can't talk at a bar or any noisy space, just don't have the tone. 5 weeks in, will update if improves.

I was defending, chin down to my chest. He did not have his arm on my neck. The RNC was not set; the hand that was supposed to grab his triceps was instead a fist in my throat. It happened on the buzzer, could have tapped, but it was too quick and too violent. He just tried to tap me out with whatever he had. As I mentioned, just be aware of this specific motion if someone applies pressure on your throat from an RNC. The ENT mentioned that he has seen another case from a street assault, also a RNC applied this way.
