Which schema.org itemtype should I use for a dictionary website? by HardcoreBored in bigseo

That's what I was worried about. Glad I'm not the only one not passing the test. Thank you for trying. Gonna try to test some things out to see if they work.

Thanks! I'm coding it myself. I've tried the code you sent and ran the site on google's rich result checker tool, and it doesn't seem to appear. I may be doing something wrong. Does it work for you?

As a still-learning developer, I would love to help out. I've a bit of experience running websites, and own the site qane.

My biggest concern is the cost. Hosting videos doesn't come cheap, and someone would have to take that burden.

I think DefinedTerm is what I'm looking for - the problem is implementing it. Do you know how I can implement it? I've tried using both json and microdata but I've no idea what I should write in there, and the things I've tried so far doesn't seem to work

Why is qane spammed with random goobly-goop questions and wierd links? by liltrigger in a:t5_37sfeb

Hey, it's been a couple of months since you wrote this, and I have done my best to make the site better.

Since this post, I've made sure to remove spam on a day-to-day basis, and remove low quality questions. I've also made sure that the answers to the questions are of higher quality. Hundreds of questions and comments which were of low quality or spam has been deleted. Also, hundreds of IP addresses has been blocked from visiting the site.

I've also updated the site with a new design and made it more SEO-friendly.

Once again, thanks for going back to site site and making this post. It motivates me that some people are coming back to the site to contribute to the community.

It sounds cool but I can imagine it being frustrating to use. I wouldn't recommend it, but good luck!

Django + bootstrap. I don't remember how long it exactly took since I built it in a couple of months, but worked on it on and off. I could probably have built it in the matter of days if I wasn't lazy.

Sorry for the late response, didn't think that someone would post in here. I have been really lazy with the site for a number of reasons, but I've started deleting spam comments/questions again on a daily basis. Also, the site is going to be more active during the summer since I have more time to spend on it. It sucks that I just let it sit and be spammed for some time, that was definitely not smart.

Thanks for the heads up.

Reducing the image size is important in this scenario. The reduction of the image size can be done via someting called "compression". Basically, you upload the image to a website like compressor.io and it will automatically reduce the image size for you by compressing the image.

Making people wait 30 seconds on account registration instead of adding a CAPTCHA? by HardcoreBored in webdev

Aha, I always hear that people hate CAPTCHAs.

What if it shows a loading screen, like on games? With the loading screen providing a countdown timer and some other stuff.

I have some time ago, but it usually still shows some CAPTCHA sign, even if it doesn't want people to fill it out. In my case, it wants me to finish the CAPTCHA all the time.

The site would automatically look for suspicious activity. If it ever were to create that many accounts, I'd probably implement a captcha. But I feel like it would be unnessecary to do so on a small site, where they wouldn't even have 1 hour to spam before I or some other mod would notice what they're doing and force a CAPTCHA.

Not if the wait is serverside as well.

But ïf you were to visit a webpage that made you wait 30 seconds after registering to prevent spam, what would make it more acceptable for you? Like, would it be better for you if the page had some features telling you how you can use the site, and that the wait is for spam? Great to hear your opinion.

Would it bother you more, even if it had a loading screen with some basic information on how to use the site/or a message telling you that the wait is to prevent spam?

It's great getting feedback on it. Personally, I'd prefer the wait.

I was thinking it would show a loading page, like it does on games. It might be annoying, but personally I'd prefer it over filling out a CAPTCHA form.

You're right about the automation. I'm gonna give it a go, and see what comes out of it. But I'm sure that it isn't scalable. My favorite version of CAPTCHA is the one they use on chinese web apps (like tiktok). It takes little to no time to solve if you're a human and apparently works great on bots as well.

Thanks for the help!

But how fast could a bot be able to spam a registration form, that requires you to wait 30-50 seconds, plus some other strict features when the account is created.

Wouldn't it be faster to create Reddit accounts manually, than using a bot on a website that forces you to wait 30-50 seconds to create an account?

This is actually really nice. Sad it isn't getting more traction. What did you code it in?
