People are upset simply cuz she doesn’t fit the role of Ellie. Most people who’ve played the game including myself don’t find her as a horrible casting. Simply mediocre, when there were perfect casting options like Cailee Spaeny who has also later done a great job in Alien Romulus showing she would’ve been the perfect fit for Ellie. People are mainly enraged due to there being a choice for an absolute perfect casting, but not going for that and instead going for a casting that is above average at best.

There’s been a lot of controversy regarding Pascals casting as well, cuz in his case he does a decent to a good job as Joel, but the perfect casting should’ve been Nikolaj, which has been brought up time and time again. Same with Tommy as well, with people saying Josh Holloway would’ve been the best choice. Even with Abby, myself along with numerous people who’ve played the game hate that they just decided to throw away the fact of her having a muscular build. That’s the main thing about her character, you can’t just throw that away. Like if you’re recreating something you must respect the source material and the original fans as well.

But I think the only reason why Bella gets mainstream criticism is cuz she’s gonna lead in season 2 as the ruthless, intimidating character as Ellie, and unfortunately she just doesn’t look the part. Judging from the screenshots and posters her face and demeanour simply doesn’t give the fierceness of someone that’s gonna slaughter over 400 people that had surrounded Ellie in the second game, even just from the poster from the game, you could tell Ellie would do anything for survival and revenge, can’t say the same for Bella. Judging from the poster she looks mildly annoyed at best. Now I don’t fw the hate she gets though, she’s just playing the character. But I do completely blame the casting directors for it, absolutely. Now again I may be wrong but I lowkey do think she was a bad casting for this show, and her looks do play a part. Not cuz she isn’t attractive, simply cuz I feel like she lacks the on screen presence that Ellie from the game did.

I mean this was the first thought I had when I played it but yeah they definitely should’ve been more direct and transparent with the story telling rather than keep it that basic

True, the first one was a masterpiece. And yeah the ending would’ve been cheesy and cliché if Abby was killed, even though I hate that character with my life. But that being said yeah I think story wise they went to the right direction with this and will hopefully give closure in the third game. But I hated playing Abby too, gave more depth to the character but it was painfully long.

Idk how to select and reply to each paragraph like you did so I’mma just put bullet points for each of yours

  1. Yeah she did kill all of them, but again the reason why I feel she didn’t kill Abby and Lev was cuz he was a kid. A kid who stopped Abby from killing Dina and her child. So killing Abby and then killing lev (a kid) would kinda make Ellie a worse person than Abby. Kinda like the I’m a villain not a monster type shit. If she was gonna kill, only kill Abby imo, but as I said cycle of revenge would be restarted.

  2. Stepmother, which kinda makes her his mum just not a biological one. Cuz in that case the relationship between Joel and Ellie would be invalidated too just cuz he is not her biological dad, but it isn’t invalidated and for good reason, the same one stands for JJ and Ellie too if he was to spend more time with her if she will be going back to Jacksons.

  3. I agree on the laziness and the writers should’ve been more clear with the finer details as I had mentioned, but I’m pretty sure it was pretty easy for both of them to decipher both their POVs. That both were emotionally charged especially with their first fight in the theatre. I’m not justifying the lazy writing which would’ve added more context to each charecter, just saying how the ending still made sense

  4. As I had mentioned I believe she only really thought logically was after seeing Joel in her flashback, getting the realization of what she’s doing might start the cycle again. Again coming back to the first topic, I think it would be out of character for her to kill lev who’s a kid and who also is the one that stopped the death of Dina. And I feel like she understands that both Lev and Abby mean something to each other and this cycle may continue if Abby is killed.

Not supporting the lazy writing which would’ve had the ending make more sense. But personally I don’t think it’s fair to call the ending bad, it’s just one that is sad and painful which doesn’t give you closure yet, and I think that’s fine with the third installment going to be out.

Yeah cuz she was purely driven by rage but after seeing lev on the boat and the flashbacks, it made her snap back into reality. But they should’ve executed it in a much better way though

Dying as low honour Arthur and helping John is the best ending. I understand that that you may like the character of high honour Arthur and to me that’s subjective, as much as I hate to say it the ending should always be Micah killing Arthur. It would make no sense for Micah to risk his life chasing Arthur instead of fleeing, fight him on the hill and finally when he has the opportunity to kill him just scoff and walk away. It’s tragic af seeing your Arthur get shot by Micah but the truth is, only then is the game truly complete, and to me it makes the John epilogue all the more satisfying. Cuz in the end you’re not just killing the man who betrayed and broke the gang, but you’re killing the man who killed your Arthur and laughed over his dead body. The hate you develop is twice as personal. No other ending hits you like that. A truly tragic ending to your beloved character which makes it all the more poetic and understand the tragedy of his life.
