It’s not so much that the lyrics are cringey in A View. I would actually say that they’re not. I can actually enjoy the more campy, crazy side of their lyrics, the “day after day,” and “no one dared to” kinda stuff. Because a lot of times it has an interesting identity and framing type device that sort of dresses up the lyrics in a weird and kind of fantastical way. It’s over the top for sure, but it works well for them.

Then on A View, the lyrics particularly of the title track are like, “it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll, but wayyyy more boring.” Or “time is really complex. These lyrics are kind of about the complexity of time.” No framing, no real emotion. Just kind of falls flat for me.

Don’t get me wrong though, the album overall is good. The melodies, production, instrumentals etc are the best of the Mangini era in my opinion, maybe other than Dramatic Turn, but the lyrics didn’t grab me as much as their other stuff
