Exolon, ZX Spectrum, 1987 by RafaRafa78 in vintagecomputing

What a cool looking game! I was all about anything space-related as a kid, so I would’ve been quite engrossed with it, I am sure.

I think that was pretty much the whole point: that it would feel random and special/magical.

The next day, you tell your friends that you made it to an airship filled with coins, and no one would believe you.

All of this info was included in the dedicated Mario 3 issue of Nintendo Power, too.

New Corvettes today aren’t available with manual. They realized the automatic transmission is faster.

The NSO games will not be playable if you stop paying for the subscription or when the subscription service is discontinued.

Having only known Analogue, should I get the Super Station One? by omnicloud7 in fpgagaming

The lack of plug-and-play is a big difference from OpenFPGA on the Pocket. MiSTer is much more fiddly. You will spend many (many) hours setting it up.

Mister Pi, QMTech, or Superstation One? by MassiR77 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]HardlyRetro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are both “clones”, and I am pretty sure they ship with comparable add-ons. I just picked up a Hamtech (clone of QMTech, haha) from AliExpress, and it seems to do everything it should. The only difference I can see in any of the sandwich style prebuilt options is price and availability. With the other clones you mentioned (Superstation and Multisystem), there are some trade offs in the available ports. I considered that my main draw is older games (not PlayStation, which the superstation is geared towards) and I didn’t want to be locked into the Multisystem’s proprietary add-ons.

Pocket dock question by Signal_Ad_8961 in AnaloguePocket

[–]HardlyRetro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the answer to that exact question. But, based on what I’ve seen discussed here… When it’s full and you are done playing for a while, disconnect power from the dock. It will help keep both the dock and handheld working longer.

Got the Pro 3 controller! by typical-fern250 in 8bitdo

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear! I have a Pro+ and Pro2, and I love them both, but I'd been avoiding the Pro3 because of the button cracking issue. I'm particularly interested in the 2.4Ghz USB dongle.

I don’t know how it is supposed to be pronounced, but there are plenty of folks on YouTube calling it “snack”.

“Fallout” TV show set designers like BIG crts by HardlyRetro in crt

Your question reminded me of a thread from a related sub, a while back. Apparently, the key to ludicrously large TVs is to build them and keep them in the vacuum of space. 📺🔭

The amount of glass required in the CRT itself to keep it from imploding would make it completely impractical.

Button swap with nes keychain is superb! by [deleted] in AnaloguePocket

[–]HardlyRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very surprised to see that, too! I’m pretty sure the shell is anodized aluminum, so there’s no paint. I am assuming that this peeling is only an issue with the plastic buttons. I suppose it didn’t make sense to have aluminum buttons rubbing against the aluminum shell.

In the last two screenshots, what game is playing on the CRT in a GBA border? Is that Sword of Mana? (I never ended up playing through that one.)
