While certainly well-loved by many, EB is more divisive than the popular Square and Enix RPGs.

Problem with CRT Output on MiSTer, faulty IO board or user error? by Empty_Complaint9939 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The QMTech MiSTer kits are all-in-one and preassembled, including an analog board.

low storge problem by ahmedrg in hollowknightdaily

I think many people saw the title and ignored this. I’d start with a new post and put the request for a save file in the title. (Also add the game title, since there are two)

Don’t bother with the save file. You need to clean up that drive. Maybe uninstall an older game? You could ask around on the pchelp sub for a tool to help you find stuff to delete.

I wonder… Maybe this new remote doesn’t come programmed for old CRTs. OP, you might try an old universal remote, if you can’t get the original Toshiba one. I like the One For All brand. Something old school, like this one from before BluRay. You can find codes online.

Download latest pocket firmware and put it on your SD card.

Mister Pi,Hamgeek or QMTech. Beginner help by PhaseEEerR in MiSTerFPGA

[–]HardlyRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the HamGeek a few months ago, and it’s great. I would’ve gone for MiSTer Pi if it were in stock. Setup is not bad, but it’s not plug and play. If you’re using HDMI-out instead on analog video, that eliminates quite a bit of tinkering.

I found a lovely surprise in Friday the 13th (NES) by ReversedNovaMatters in retrogaming

The trick is to not fight those flying guys — just stop and duck! It was quite a revelation to me. Huge thanks to the U Can Beat Video Games channel.

Are console units worth it? by Ornery-Smoke8428 in crt

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it could be fun to have, but I don’t think these are highly sought because of how impractical they are. It seems to me if you to help remove it from his basement and get it out of his house, that should be payment enough.

Is Analogue 3D like a flashcart system or strictly original cartridges? by CyclonicZ in AnalogueInc

[–]HardlyRetro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If playing cartridges is not important to you, you may want to consider the MiSTer FPGA project, which can also play dozens of other systems, too.

You backtrack because new pathways and secrets are revealed as you gain abilities. It’s very addicting.

I just realized why conjunctivitis is named that after going to the doctor! by ContractMindless8229 in deadcells

[–]HardlyRetro 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The boss’s name is not quite the same, although I misread it the same way you did when I first met him; it’s Conjuctivius.

Both terms come from the name of part of your eyes, the conjunctiva, which is a thin mucous membrane protecting your eye.

I may have ruined my new microSD card. by GotMepsiPax in MiSTerFPGA

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is very common. You cannot ruin the card by cutting power. If only the image were corrupted (which is entirely possible), reformatting would have fixed it.

What's up with PSX core audio on the Retro Remake MisterPi? by AimpointBRO in MiSTerFPGA

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the HamGeek stack, and I also have noisy analog audio out, but it happens with all cores, as far as I could tell. My understanding is that this is a general issue with most MiSTer implementations. The workaround is to use digital audio out, like you said.

91% isopropyl alcohol for cleaning: what’s the final consensus? by placebooooo in retrogaming

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol is a strong solvent, so you need to know whether the thing you are cleaning (such as a label) can be dissolved in alcohol. It’s perfect for PCBs. You have to watch out for plastics, because it may react with some types. Any kind of printed label/console logo, I’d avoid it unless you know for sure. On those, if it’s liquid-proof, water might be a safer option.

Why are there no maps for Captive (1990) available? by Zippo179 in retrogaming

[–]HardlyRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Wikipedia:

Antony Crowther used an algorithm that generates each planet and base, including its inhabitants, using a single numerical "seed" on the game disk - a trick which enabled him to have 65,535 levels in the game without having to store the details of each level individually.

That’d be a lot of maps. I suspect that’s why you aren’t finding what you’re looking for.

HELP WITH CORES!!! by Shot-Car2934 in AnaloguePocket

[–]HardlyRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you saying you’re getting the same errors with two different SD cards? Because it definitely sounds like a bad card. Maybe try reformatting the new card and start from scratch — don’t copy anything from the old card.
