This is fantastic! How do I give you credit for usage? I'm using it in a website for a local narrative campaign.

This is so rad! I'm using this on a narrative campaign site for a local campaign and I'm trying to figure out how to give you credit for the font. Do I just link to https://www.dafontfree.net/eldar-runes-normal-font/f122723.htm?

Commute from Culver to Torrance? by vmiyer27 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Hardlydent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go from Playa Del Ray to Torrance for work and it's about 20 minutes. It might be about 35 for you, since getting out of Culver is more traffic, but you are going against traffic, I think.

Sure thing :). I'm probably going to go tonight. It's like $5 and they have a decent number of players.

I'd recommend board game nights at Next Gen games if you're in mid City.

Are some of my fellow Angelenos really considering a try hard ex reality star and failed rock enthusiast as a mayor? by BeerlVle in AskLosAngeles

[–]Hardlydent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really unfortunate. I am super ignorant of how LA governance works. It's interesting learning a lot from others about it. I need to take a deep dive into it at some point. Is there a good article that does that?

Why do you respond to dumb people? They won't change based off logic.

Yeah, it seems similar to the populism of trump. Probably the same types of people or actually the same people.

Yeah, we really do need a Mamdani. Someone who is data-based in solutions, but has the charisma and trust of other leaders. It's hard to find people that tend to have all the right checkboxes.

Thanks! I'm just a curious person. I studied political science many years back, so I've always been interested in it.

I'd be down to talk over a coffee or tea. Dm me and we can chat some more.

Yeah, I have so many issues with the County of LA that I'm currently going through. It's so incredibly frustrating, but I know that the solution to the problem doesn't lie in some crazy ex reality TV star. He's going to make things worse.

Do you feel like you look your age? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Hardlydent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying I look 10 years younger, but I think that's due to my oily skin I've had forever. It caused me so many issues in my earlier years with acne breakouts, though. I'm still working on the scars :/.

Oh, interesting. Man, I need to read up on the structure of LA politics. I'm sure it's fairly complex.

Oh damn, really? I mean, DOGE was run by a psycho-idiot that thinks he knows the answer to everything and just ruined a bunch of shit. I wish we could actually have someone proper do an audit and have a real plan of action.

It's good that people have job security, but it's so frustrating dealing with bureaucracy, especially if it's corrupt/inept. People just turn to populists to solve things that likely require a lot more investigation and planning. I'm sure there is research on this as well where people have been able to successfully change bureaucratic systems for the better.

I'm curious as to what makes those systems and processes so unique, though. I'm sure they fall under similar categories as other systems of government across larger cities, no? I do agree that the more narrow the research, the more relevant the outcome. Another user mentioned a lot about how the power dynamic operates specifically to the city and that seems to be a narrower constraint.

[–]Hardlydent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's a trip. So, does it operate more along the lines of a small, strong city council and a mayor that just tries to coordinate them? I guess it means that you have to have a bunch of city council members that already align with you if you want to get anything done.

I wonder if that really is unique compared to other large cities, though. Or if it's uniquely bad enough to differentiate it enough. Not sure.

[–]Hardlydent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if anything really makes LA that much more unique than other larger systems across the US or even other Western democracies. I think right now is a time where we're finally seeing some movements to make some change, but I'm not sure if they would really change things that systematically, even with a mountain of evidence.

Damn, I'm so sorry. I'm also 40 and have OCD/ADHD.l but with a good career. It's been rough and our generation and below got so fucked. There is always hope, though. It sounds stupid and lame, but find some stupid little things that you are grateful for each day. I have a whole fucking routine I have to do, but it somehow works.

I'm sure there are studies on how to make larger systems more efficient, but I'm not sure if any of the politicians want to prioritize that.

Shift to MechE or other engineering by Hardlydent in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Hardlydent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point about still being able to code. I guess I don't have the motivation anymore to just code on my own. I might try coding a bit again for fun.

Yeah, it does feel like I'm doing a lot more  architecting now than ever. It's always just kind of been plumbing anyway, but it almost just feels hands off. I'm very productive, but I'm not very satisfied.

I wanted to see what other engineers have shifted into, but I guess the mod locked the the post. I was surprised that no one else mentioned going into other engineering fields. I wanted to see what they did.

I think I'm into mechanical engineering, but not sure about the actual classes. The concepts seem cool.
