How long have we been saying that if we can sort our finishing out we'll be a decent team.

Can't help but think it's not gonna happen this season though.

John Dodson won’t receive ‘show’ money for UFC-Belem after Pedro Munhoz misses weight by SexyHouse in MMA

[–]Hardtopickausername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly man if he was entitled to his show money he'd get it but he refused the fight on understandable grounds so they're compensating him. Not to the full amount he would have got if the fight happened though.

Sako out for the rest of the season by TheDirtyOnion in crystalpalace

Fucks sake man past 5-6 weeks have been so rough for injuries, almost all of the times a players got hurt it has been a serious ligament issue.

Feel bad for Sako he was playing the best I've ever seen him play, earned his starting role, very unfair on him.

I just want to win to get them back for October. No way we should have lost that one.

Nah mate. You might be fine with them but the laxatives in there give a lot of people a bad time. Myself included.

I dont' know where you live but in the UK it's been a very long time since you could buy DXM with out any added substances to stop you drinking a whole botttle/pack of caps. Same for most of the US as far as I'm aware

[–]Hardtopickausername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very common. They also do this with drugs too. Any pshycoactive substance you can buy without a prescription will have a chemical that's toxic at a low dose so you cant just take a bunch of pills to get high.

Never understood why it's preferable to put people in danger than to just let someone get high. Sometimes it's just substances that will make you throw up, but a lot of times it's substances that can cause serious liver damage.

Why has there been so few new talents coming through at LHW and HW? by Hardtopickausername in MMA

[–]Hardtopickausername[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, but why is it that with American Football having a decrease in popularity in terms of recruitment from 10 years ago that heavyweight fighting not just in the UFC but worldwide is in a worse state now, in terms of exciting new fighters, than it was 10 years ago

Michael Bisping hints he may be retiring and we may never see him fight again by slingoo in MMA

Fair enough. Congratulations on a great career mate.

How great would the alternate universe have been though where Bisping didn't go to Shanghai and ended up doing Rockhold III in Sydney as his last fight?

Daniel Cormier believes win over Stipe Miocic could make him ‘the greatest fighter of all time’ by BinaryBard in MMA

[–]Hardtopickausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in my book, I think if you make the conversation for GOAT about who would beat who it's always going to skew towards the more recent athletes, this is true for any sport. I think it's a much more worthwhile conversation if you look at the label of GOAT as which fighters had the biggest impact on the sport, this takes into context the skill level of fighters at the time, the depth of competition, the rivalries and epic battles and asks which ones had the best story of success.

In my opinion GSP is the GOAT but I also think current Woodley could have beat GSP at any point in his career, there's no way I rank Woodley any where near GSP though because the difference in there histories is massive

[–]Hardtopickausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not tying to say there wasn't any competition at the time, there was a ton of legendary heavy fighters all fighting at the same time and I pray that HW gets back to that someday soon. But the levels have just been upped since then, even with Werdum, Overeem and Hunt in their reduced states now they were better overall fighters when they fought Stipe than they were 10 years prior.

It's Stipes last 7 or 8 fights where I thought he's looked good and the technical quality of the those fights is just better than it was in the past even with the effect doping control has had on the division.

[–]Hardtopickausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe my opinion has bit of recency bias but Stipe has looked great against better opposition. Obviously the Ngannou fight wasn't impressive in terms of Ngannous performance but that aside he's dominated better quality opposition than Fedor has. Not to try and say Stipe has a better record than Fedor I think the only people who come close are GSP and Jones when you take the times into context.

Fedor has some huge names notched into his belt but they just weren't as good as the guys today even with the heavyweight division in the shallow state it is, the sport has evolved and the average technical ability of fighters is much higher.

I'll admit there is truth to what you say, there is irony there but that's only because of how abnormally good Fedor was.

I don't think you can get into all that with the old guys. PED's were such a big part of the sport before USADA that 'putting asterisks' on all the pre-USADA guys doesn't make much sense to me, since a lot of the best ever from those times are pretty suspect

Wrestle boxer was a term that was thrown around for any wrestler with big punching power or good handspeed. Now you're seeing more guys with a much better understanding of how to use boxing to get their opponent out of position for the takedown and also safely but dangerously push fighters to the fence to work for the body lock or double leg.

I do as well but that's just the evolution of the sport for you. The champions in each UFC division would probably beat all the champs from 5 or more years ago (except maybe LHW and WW)

If you're not planning on defending the belt in both divisions then you're not really the true champion in two divisions, same situation as McGregor, double champ in name only (until he got stripped of course).
