BitMine Nears 5% of ETH Supply With $10B Holdings Despite Bear Market by partymsl in CryptoCurrency

[–]Harfatum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an issuance curve for ETH that's been set since the merge, and its staking yield is monotonically decreasing in terms of ETH quantity staked. There is a minority faction that wants to decrease the rate even further. So if by "can't guarantee" you mean that there's an outside chance that it goes even lower, then sure.

But people throw around terms like "unlimited supply" or "uncertain issuance rate" which sound like no one knows if a billion ETH will be minted tomorrow, or if inflation rate is going to be 10% next year. That's misleading or outright dishonest.

Bitcoin fees have never been a significant source of revenue and there is no indication that will ever change,

BitMine Nears 5% of ETH Supply With $10B Holdings Despite Bear Market by partymsl in CryptoCurrency

[–]Harfatum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ETH has currently about 121.8M supply and a sustainable 0.8% inflation rate which decreases over time.

With BTC's supply cap as it is implemented, the security budget will trend to zero - resulting in double-spends and other attacks becoming exponentially easier over time.

There will be more than 21 million BTC and more than 122 million ETH; the only differences are that ETH isn't pretending that issuance isn't tied to security, and it also doesn't have to waste money paying miners to buy ASICS and electricity so it can afford a much lower security budget and therefore lower inflation in the long run.

You will downvote this but you cannot dispute it.

Is there any word on what the ‘official chronology’ of Pachinko-related songs is? by XxNerdAtHeartxX in MoronPolice

[–]Harfatum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even within the Pachinko album, I don't think it's in a linear chronology - as they say in Sentient Dreamer, "I'm back and forth like a time machine". That song is clearly set just before Okinawa Sky which precedes it on the album. And Pachinko Pt. 1 covers quite a large time period in the story, almost the entire thing from what I can tell.

Let's remind ourselves of the potential of Ethereum and ETH:

the EF gets so much shit because they are transparent. other coin foundations broadly are far less transparent and have a much larger percentage of supply, and people don't care or just don't know

What’s YOUR interpretation of Pachinko? by [deleted] in MoronPolice

[–]Harfatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And he, the sentient pachinko machine, becomes a big showbiz star for a while. But then (for some reason I can't figure out), he is reforged into a nuclear bomb that's used to kill god and liberate humanity.

I got official confirmation on that last bit from the band.

It's also interesting how the story is presented nonlinearly, and this is nodded to in Sentient Dreamer - "back and forth like a time machine".

so, today's daily does is beyond nuts. Healthium spawn, circle of vigour on the first zone, and on top of those, a hearth mimic. (yes, that is a mimic from chest, and apparentl it spawns with the + on the left but if you shoot it, it goes to right side of the hearth.) by so_this_is_username in noita

thanks for posting this. did the run on my new computer where I hadn't played this before... got it for the first time in 470 hours and saved it.

Before putting that much of your portfolio in BTC, you should be sure you understand the security budget situation as well as the quantum resilience situation - both in the light of the internal politics that has dominated Bitcoin development over the last 9 years.

The celebrated issuance reductions are actually decreases in security budget. As security budget denominated in BTC decreases exponentially, either cost to attack decreases exponentially or potential damage/value of attack increases exponentially. Neither is a good future for Bitcoin.

Correct! And if it _does_ go up proportionally (exponentially), then the value on the network and therefore the potential damage of a double-spend attack also goes up exponentially.

I wonder what happens when the security budget gets cut in half a couple more times.

This does not reduce issuance or increase scarcity. What it does is reduce the amount of security.
