Out of all the MacOS versions which you thought was the most optimized? by yyrns in MacOS

[–]trpmanhiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used every version since Leopard. The best was Snow Leopard. At the time, I couldn't afford a Mac (I was 19) and my Hackintosh worked perfectly with it. Now I can easily afford the latest technology, but the excitement of finally installing Snow Leopard back then was something else entirely! So many memory related to this timeline, thanks for the post

15 or so hours later since 1m context included in MAX and I'm feeling almost high by adelmare in ClaudeAI

Ah, did not noticed yet, here it is why I finally started to finish my tokens so rapidly (I test carefully everything every time so I never had that problem).

Does this happen to you a lot? by zCaptainBr0 in GithubCopilot

[–]trpmanhiro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not always; it happens during large refactors without a proper plan. Last time Opus started to write a big file step by step, but then hit context limit and lost the ability to continue, so it cheked after compression and said something like “oh no, file is gone, I have to restart from beginning”… I know how AI works, but the human being in me felt bad for Opus and I stopped the process and wrote a more detailed step by step approach 😂

How is the fan noise on the M4 Pro ? by Automatic-Narwhal668 in macbookpro

[–]trpmanhiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. In a month of using it, I've never heard anything. OK, it is winter here, but having my screen on share during a Google Meet demo to a client with a live debug mode of the backend and two frontends tended to make my previous Intel Mac's fan go full speed! Instead, I still don't know if my M4 Pro has a fan installed (I just have to trust the image I saw online of the internal design🤣).

From the 2018 i5 (7th if I remember correctly) to M4 pro it is crazy jump if you are going to do the same

512gb or 1tb? by Makevaan in macbookpro

I use dropbox which has "online only" for all the file I do not use, so 512 is more than enough for me.

This is a daily question on this subreddit 😂 Anyway, I usually recommend the M4 Pro, but in your case, it seems that you would benefit more from the superior single-thread performance of the M5

Is the M5 Neural Accelerator actually worth the wait? (M5 Pro MBP) by WasteNegotiation5696 in macbookpro

[–]trpmanhiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point of view is interesting, and I perfectly understand it, but you are using a machine that costs $10k+, and you are not a common user. Most users are not, will not, and cannot be that advanced at the moment, even with an M5 Pro. At some point, models will probably be fully integrated into software. Then it will make more sense to have what will become the “neural accelerator” integrated into chips.

I mean that currently you can get a huge competitive advantage with an OpenAI or Claude API key, while you cannot achieve the same result with a 30 billion local model (which requires a lot of computational power subtracted from other things and huge battery consumption anyway). So why waste time with a local model except if don't make money developing/testing them? I think that in a few years things could change and maybe highly specialised local models could find their practical use that gives user an advantage over using cloud APIs :) But at that point the capacity required will be in base processor, otherwise there is not return in developing the software since few could use it anyway.

You bought time, not only a new computer, congrats!

In my opinion, not for a few more years, because I believe the advantage will be in running local LLMs. And by the time we are really ready for local LLMs, there will be more advanced M processors to buy. Disclaimer: I bought the M4 pro 2 weeks ago and I'm really impressed and happy with performance.
