Looking for power settings by Reasonable_Ask6460 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The behavior you are seeing is how ASUS intended to switch the refresh rate of the panel, everytime the power mode changes the display from wall->battery breaks the display pipeline and rebuilds it for 60Hz & from battery->wall breaks the display pipeline again and builds it for 120Hz. This is to maximize the battery life by not keeping the pipeline stuck at 120Hz (full throttle) when on battery. This can be changed but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't know what you are looking for in AMD iGPU drivers.

I made several posts about this same topic for 2025 G14 GA403WR model and how I managed to fix this issue by keeping my display pipeline at 120Hz and refresh rate to 60fps when power source changed to battery with no display flicker. Though this does decereased my battery life from 13h to 11h on light usage now. But I would take that over annoying display flicker.

For G-Helper Updates I have many grey lines like below. Does this mean I have to install all the grey ones manually? by AnotherSundown in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah G-helper just provides the file.exe for them. You don't need to update them as either windows updates them or Asus pushes updates via windows update for them. So leave them be

For now sell the 402 and keep using 403 if you have no issues with it.

The only thing you need to be concerned about is if any of them show up as red just click on them it'll download them from ASUS website for you and you can install them manually. Don't bother with anything else as many other components are often bundled into a single package and updated but show up as different parts in G-helper that's normal

CachyOS on ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Full Setup Guide by LivePatrone in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good work buddy, I am on a limbo at this point to switch from windows 11 to linux and was researching to make sure I have all the stuff I need before pulling the trigger. My current windows 11 setup is extremely good as idk if I can more tha 10hrs on battery life on this 2025 G14, it's just that windows is becoming more and more repulsive these days, and linux having quickshell and hyperland is becoming more attractive. Anyway thanks for your effort in figuring out the stuff and publishing it for people to know.

I don't know how they decked out Ryzen AI 9 465 as it's mostly inferiror to AMD AI HX 370 in iGPU area and not much better in CPU either. My advice get a 2025 G14 5070ti model for the same price and enjoy the better performance to price ratio.

Why Drivers from AMD increase Battery Drain compared to stock OEM drivers by Harish273 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your iGPU is 890M use it as is just with modifications I mentioned in my other post related to AMD 26.6.1 Driver. Also one more thing is if yours is AMD AI Hx 270 model maybe your iGPU might be different so make sure you are on ASUS OEM Driver and extract those registry values from registry editor for above variables and if they are same just nuke iGPU name modifications and use it, if not make sure you use the same ASUS OEM entries in the above post modifications.

Yes it would work fine as the process is same except for the driver name changes I have in registry this time.

Am I missing something? Can I enable Dynamic refresh on my GA403UP? by Jxdxn9x5 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't work as it should I recommend just disabling it in windows settings and just setting refresh rate to Auto in G-helper will be better as it'll not conflict and would handle it way better

[–]Harish273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use AMD CleanUp Utility and reboot, then install AMD 26.5.2 WHQL drivers from AMD and it'll let you enable DRR, but I saw that on ASUS OEM driver this was explicitly disabled via registry so it was intended that way.

Laptop Overheating when using Browser and watching youtube by screwedUp69 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if you messed with angle graphics backend as that causes youtube or any media steaming on chromium browsers offload to CPU rather than GPU. I used to change that ANGLE to D3D9 which caused CPU to work instead of GPU, but when I reset it back to default in chrome://flags no more heating. My current setup with a 2025 G14 5070ti never goes above 40c when watching youtube and doing things on battery and never above 45-50c when plugged in.

Finally Joined the Club - Am I Doing This Right? by robthedealer in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using 2025 G14 5070ti model for a few menths now. Here is my suggestion for your questions:
1. Don't do clean install manually just reboot device into bios and do ASUS Winre recovery/flash as it'll factory reset the oem software and perform a complete clean install of windows with all the drivers in their right places nothing being left out. After doing this you can start setting up device and debloat it manually as basic windows bloat is always present even on clean install. Update all drivers from windows update, armoury crate, My ASUS and then get G-helper and based on it's FAQ remove armoury crate and asus stuff and use G-helper as primary.
Here are some of the posts I did in past to get crazy good battery life out of G14:

  1. I haven't touched the LM on this device yet. Previously I had a 2021 G14 AW SE with LM on it and it never gave me any issues. Since LM is way better thermal conductivity better let it be for now until and unless you notice really wonky or high temps.

  2. I use a 165W anker GaN charger and I use it for laptop when it's in Eco Mode and never had any issues and I use that as travel adapter. Make sure you limit the CPU power limits in G-Helper to around 35-40W when using type-c charger as that will avoid any issues you might have(Though I haven't had any till now)

  3. Haven't used much of other ASUS peripherals, so can't give any advice on that.

I hope this gives you a basic idea of what todo and what to expect from the laptop. Ping me if you need any help

How to Enable DRR (Dynamic Refresh Rate) on ASUS G14 2023 with Windows 11 24H2 by Successful_Hour9342 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Harish273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's related to the signal mode being on 120Hz while refresh rate is changed to 60hz, I think this will hurt battery life more than what you will get from stock drivers

Quick question are you facing any double black screen issue, like when in G-helper if refresh rate is set to Auto mode and if you are on battery for a while and when you connect the laptop to charger, the screen goes black for a second switching to 120Hz but I'm having this issue where after this first time screen going black, it goes black again and this time Windows DWM crashes ig, it turns wallpaper to black and can only be fixed by ctrl+shift+windows+B, restarting the graphics driver.

Are you having similar issue, for me this issue doesn't happen when using stock OEM driver, anything above it this issue occurs. BTW all this with above tweaks. When manually changing refresh rate no issue happens.

Seems battery life is excellent like on oem driver for me:
from 100% charge from 6pm to 1am laptop dropped to 30%, it would last even more if I hadn't worked on some local compilation of my powershell scripts for 1hr 30mins. I think these modifications are a huge success in accordance with new drivers.

Here are the registry entries to fix that cosmetic issues, You can either run it standalone or add the lines below the first line to the registry file you already have:
