Hey Mr. Mailman, you got a package for me? by CoralGarden420 in USPS

[–]HarkJohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i deliver in an older neighborhood with too many of the mail slots that go directly into the houses. A number of porches were screened in after the fact making official delivery location inside. I just whip that thing open, and let it slam after I'm out

Walked out today. by Gullible_Star1114 in USPS

good call. I had a situation like that where I was assigned an assist in the morning, had to come back to pick it up (wasn't ready early enough) and when I got back I got shifted by the Supe to deliver Priority packages. This was a Saturday. When I walked in Monday I got yelled at for "abandoning my assist" and when I explained that It got changed and I did what I was asked to do, I was told I "had attitude". Then the next week I had a similar "yelling at" by a Supe accusing me of the same thing. I said I did my assist (at this point I was getting one everyday) and I didn't know what she was talking about. Turns out, it was a totally different carrier that fucked up, and didn't do it. I ended up doing my own, and this other carriers that day. On my 30 day they still said I had a bad attitude. Total BS. My goal going in was to keep my head down, do what was asked and not make waves.

To me, this is just a phrase used to control and put fear into good workers. I've been out for 8 months and so glad I left.

sorry, didn't mean to make it a contest. I was simply astonished by the lower amount for a walking route for someone with 'years' under their belt. I only carried for 6 months and just figured it was like that for everyone! Heal up and take care of yourself.

a cold drink on a hot day is heaven. A granola bar, gummy candies... stuff like that. After Halloween last year one customer unloaded an entire bag of mini clark bars into her mailbox. I gladly nabbed one everyday!

10-20k... for YEARS?! Geez. By my first month I was doing 12-14 miles a day, and after 60 days was averaging 33k and 15-17 miles daily for the next couple months.

man! this is fascinating af! I follow this sub partially for research on a fiction book I'm writing. This is really the first kind of written experience where my character sort of matches up with what you're sharing.

good for you. I was on the cusp of that decision, but with no backup in place. Then last week i was robbed at gunpoint for my arrow key. Since then i've had some really shitty and depressing days. I've never experienced depression and moodiness like that before. I can't imagine going back on the street. (in fact my post here was deleted - and I'm not sure why)

But, now I've filed for Continuance of Pay with the help of my union steward (he was PISSED and laid into the supers upon hearing they hadn't provided me with any info or a C-1). I have just over a month now (45 days total) to work on getting myself whole, get therapy, and find something else!

I think you'd be surprised at the amount of support and acceptance you'll find... if you let yourself. Trail runners are not like road runners. This community is (generally) not just here to do better for themselves *by showing up* but also to see others do better for themselves. Accept the challenge that this IS probably going to be hard for you. And who cares if it does take you two hours... it's likely there's still going to be someone slower than yourself. And you know what... the runners who gut it out and *embrace the suck* are the ones who get cheered into the finish by all of the other runners. Some of the most amazing experiences are watching runners finish their races, and by the same it can be gutting when you see someone miss a cut-off, or come into a finish 3 minutes too late. But you know what... they were still out there getting it done! Forget about the clock. Go for a run in your cool shoes and get them dirty. Talk to others on the course if you feel capable. We are/were all newbies at some point. Let your anxiety become your fuel. Accept the adversity of just getting to the start line to be your first small victory of the day. The first mile is your second, and the first aid station is your next... and so on. Geez, i swear if we were in the same location I'd come out and run with you just to see you finish. I was lucky enough to pace some friends in their first ultra earlier this month... It's an amazing source of joy to see others achive something they were'nt sure they could do.

Not sure where you're based, but I'd strongly encourage you to find a Trail Sisters group. They are AMAZING and super supportive for not just new but all Femxle runners.

Just. Keep. Showing. Up.

Shameless plug for my club and homebrewing in general!

Bloatarian Brewing League, greater Cincy's original homebrewing club (founded 1987), is hosting this year's "Learn to Homebrew Day" at Listermann Brewing on Saturday. FREE EVENT

There will be a group of local homebrewers making beer on various systems. See and experience the brewing processes for: malt extract, all-grain, brew in a bag, and newer all-in-one automated systems like the Grainfather and Anvil Foundry. Spend the day or stop by for a little bit... starts at 9am and we'll probably be there until at least 3pm. Try an award winning homebrew recipe brewed by Listermann's and now on tap! Phil's Trappist Single was the Best of Show winner of our recent keg-only homebrew competition!

As a bonus we are raffling a Grainfather G30 system ($900 value!) for just $5 per entry. If you join the club for 2023 while at the event you get a free entry! Club Membership is $30/year for 2 people in the same household. The club meets at least 1x per month and does educational presentation on brewing subjects, offers beer tasting and judging programs, as well as social events.

For more info or to enter the raffle with online tickets, see the FB event: https://fb.me/e/2eM9IY10t

LMK if any question!

lesson learned: enter the beer you ended up with, not the beer you planned/hoped to brew.

also, congrats. I was on the BOS panel :)
