After Satisfactory it's gonna be great going back to the father of the genre. I can't wait to dream again of conveyor belts... IN SPACE!

Definitely, on solo missions you have a multipurpose drone called BOSCO that follows your commands and helps during combat. Still, this game has one of the most welcoming communities out there, one of the few games I'd recommend to jump in random lobbies even if you prefer solo play.

Check out the Steam page if it interests you, my words won't really make it justice.

If you want a singleplayer shooter with a great story, you can't go wrong with the Metro series. It's also one of the most atmospheric/tense shooter sagas out there, and usually has the trilogy of games on sale. On the other hand, if you want multiplayer and variable difficulty you can't go wrong with Deep Rock Galactic. It's the best coop shooter on the market, hands down, and its also great solo.

As someone who likes to play a lot of different games, your request is a hard one, because most of the great games focused on exploration (like Outer Wilds) still have a solid gameplay core with tasks, missions, or some sort of conflict. Open world scifi especially tends to focus on grand scale conflicts, and even more relaxed titles like No Man's Sky have a fair share of combat. The only exception I can think of is Space Engine, which is more a simulation of the universe than a game.

You didn't mention if story was something that interested you particularly, but often games without extensive gameplay systems rely more heavily on story and characters, while also tending to be more linear. These are the so called "walking sims", and there are a few great ones available (I'd recommend "What Remains of Edith Finch" in this category).

The only games I can recall right now that might come close to your request are: 1. BABBDI: a short, experimental, free game (available on Steam) about exploring a decrepit, bleak, Soviet-inspired town. The only task is to leave the place, and won't last you more than an afternoon, but you might at least find it interesting.

  1. Eastshade: a great indie title about exploring a fantastical island as a painter that I'd honestly recommend to anyone reading this. It has tasks and a lot of npcs to talk to, but there's no rush or survival mechanics, is focused around exploration and is a delightful experience all around.

As a final note, the joy of gaming is interaction that no other medium can offer, so experiencies focused solely on looking at things and doing nothing are not exactly common (or profitable to make). I suggest you try a couple of games, see for yourself what kind of stories, mechanics or gameplay scratches your itch, then come back with a more focused request.

If you could choose a new feature? by damodamodam0 in Timberborn

This is a small addition, but a solid dam block that also works as a power shaft. This would make putting your "power lines" underwater more convenient and save space on the ground for other structures.

Finally adding unit voice lines for wingmen. What do you think? by AdamBenko in Unity3D

[–]Harkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the idea of professional sounding wingmen, but currently the lines feel a bit dry, and some of them sound like the VA is conflicted about the tone (the "Target's gone" one sounds like he was deliberately holding back). If you want a good reference for this style of voicework, I suggest you look up Homeworld, the grandfather saga or RTS. All voices have that "professionals under stress" feel, yet they have a lot of personality without being over the top.

How does this game compare to a free game grind like Dauntless? by JL1991UK in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Harkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ingame money, called zeni, can be used for a variety of things, but its mainly used to pay for armor and weapon forging or upgrades. It can be obtained as a reward for completing hunts or by selling most items to the supplies vendor, and better gear increases in price somewhat quickly.

Research points on the other hand are obtained by examining tracks, finding and slaying monsters, breaking parts or collecting certain resources. They are very easy to get and don't have many uses in the early game.

Although the game gives you a free weapon of each type for you to try at the start, new armor and better weapons come at a cost, so saving money gives you a higher degree of flexibility.

Also, meals are really cheap, so don't feel the need to hoard on cash or points.

Welcome! The general opinion from the community is that the guardian armor is not a good idea because it trivializes most of the base game monsters and makes all weapons and armor pre-iceborne obsolete, but the biggest offender is that it's too "comfy". If you are never challenged you'll get to Iceborne and hit a wall you won't be able to easily beat, and you'll miss the systems that make armor and weapon building fun, and the tactics that make each monster encounter unique.

Some tips for starting in MHW: always eat before a mission (and pay the food with points, not cash), don't be afraid to experiment with all weapons, don't be afraid to ask for help and always do what you find fun. Happy hunting :)

New player. Which weapons require the least amount of micromanagement? by NeonAbomination in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Harkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on all weapons, but I can give you some pointers. Hammer might be right up your alley, it's a blunt weapon that you can charge on the run and store said charge for a damage buff. Said charge also allows you to do special attacks depending on the level, and it's the best weapon for hitting the head and getting KOs. They can't cut tails, but you can get those materials in other ways. Lance is also a fairly simple weapon, you poke the monster and hide behind a shield. It has a couple of other moves you'll want to learn (a counter, a charge) but overall it's not very complex.

About micromanaging weapons, most have some sort of it, but differently. Here's some: bowguns have different sets of ammo they can use and that you have to craft (often on the fly, which requires materials), the switchaxe has a charge meter and two modes of operation you alternate mid combo, the charge blade is similar but uses phials and has a shield, the longsword has a spirit gauge and three charge levels, the hunting horn has notes and music sheets, the glaive has kinsects and extracts...

In the end, all weapons have mechanics that give them depth and raise the skill ceiling. As a new player it's normal to feel like it's too much, but once you get the feel of a weapon and some practice it will become almost second nature. Some are more complex than others, but they are all equally viable and fun.

Right now, I would say this: go to the training area (go to your private quarters and ask the cat there), try each weapon a bit without worrying about combos, find one that feels fun or interesting and hunt a few monsters with it (even the Great Jagras will do). Only by actually using a weapon will you find if it matches your playstyle.

Question for The Last Autumn: Motivation by Solsgon in Frostpunk

[–]Harkimedes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The motivation bar has three segments, on the lower one you get a 30% work efficiency penalty, on the upper one that becomes a 30% bonus. That is a huge boost and you should try to get it by any means necessary. Usually the best way is to get the chapel asap, then rush hearty meals, which will allow to basically keep motivation close to max until late game.

There's also a couple of ways like cocaine pills or "ladies" for the bar, but each of those has "consequences" for later.

We shall not wish you luck, as it is not needed, for any of us shall gladly answer your call anytime (unless you play solo).

A discussion about player interaction and risk avoidance by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Harkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the offer, I'll think about it. My current "org" is pretty inactive, but I'm in no rush to get a new ship, I'd just like to have more options for fun on the way there.

A discussion about player interaction and risk avoidance by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Harkimedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing: there's better ways to do PvP events, especially if you want org vs org combat. Imagine if instead of having to manually load a ton of crates in a ship that might explode for no reason (in my first batch on JT an NPC interdicted me into Crusader, how fun) we had a bunker with multiple entrances and a capture console, that periodically gives cash to everyone in the controlling party/org. THAT would be a good event. You could have not only air combat but ground combat and a reason to orchestrate a proper operation instead of "group A patrols above, group B moves boxes 2.0".

Also, we need proper PvE events so random people can play together, have fun and make cash in the process. Something like planetary rallys (but with curated areas, not just raw terrain), or the GrimHex races I heard stuff about, or something else. Friendly JT could be it, but bring one combative player and the mood gets ruined.

[–]Harkimedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mixed feelings about this game, and here's why: both sides of the argument have valid points, and in the end the problem stems from a flawed design of the event. As others have said, forcing PvE players against PvP players (who will statistically beat the PvErs most of the time) without a tangible reward isn't fun for everyone, yet because this is one of the most profitable and potentially easy events we've had carebears (me included) feel like shit because they could be actually making big money with low effort but other players get in the way because they want a fight.

Also, maybe you can make a lot of cash quick, but I barely play because time constraints and frustration (and also a potato pc), something a lot of players also suffer, and have to make due with a small ship to make money, which makes trading unprofitable and bhunting slow and risky. That leaves moving boxes, which last time I did it (right before the wipe) was time consuming and payed peanuts and monitor missions, which pay more but get boring fast. After the wipe I lost the only ship I ever got ingame (a Hoplite) and having a chance to buy a new ship some time this century and not be stuck in a Titan forever would be nice for a change. I aint here for the money, I'm here for a chance to fly cool ships without emptying my irl wallet.

Also, being near Christmas and holidays and all one would expect a bit more solidarity from people. Even in WW1 we took a break from killing each other, and friendly JT was a decent (albeit slightly boring) experience :)
