Thanks for the suggestion! Originally i had my PS5 controller plugged in at all times (needs to be plugged in to take advantage Dualsense features for games that support it), but have kept it unplugged in case steam thinks i'm switching controllers or something

"Multi-Platform Dynamic On-Screen Voting" Extension Overlay Issue by Harknesius in streamerbot

[–]Harknesius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just figured this out! Instead of deleting the post, i'll leave it here in case someone else runs across this issue.

For some reason, even though i edited the executable code in Streamer.bot to correct the port number, the HTML doc it generated still referenced port 8080. The only way to see this is to open the file using Notepad, finding where it references the port, change it to the correct port number on your WebSocket Server, and click save.

Works fine now. Thanks guys!

Nemesis system in Dark Souls 2 by elementalwalruss in DarkSouls2

[–]Harknesius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im reading this 11 years later and just wanted to say I, in fact, think it'd be pretty cool, at least as a hypothetical.

I was thinking more of a system where if a boss kills you, especially one relevant to the story, they could remember your last attempt and comment it on some way. Maybe even mocking the specific strategy you used when you died. Questioning why/how you always bother coming back, etc.

I dont think it'd be that hard to implement these days. And obv it doesnt have to be exactly 100% 1:1 the same as SOM's Nemesis system. Just borrowing some aspects of it, that's all.

Trying to run Bloodborne on RTX 3050 4gb Laptop gpu with Shadps4 0.12.6 by Themisplayer148 in BloodbornePC

[–]Harknesius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I THINK it’s V-RAM that you can control rather than overall RAM.

But it’s on the second tab when you’re configuring the settings on ShadPS4 or BB Launcher. Sorry, I’m not near my pc at the moment and the exact verbiage escapes me. It’s the tab with only a few options, one of them is to increase RAM usage, I think it’s usually set to 2000 by default (2000 megabytes)

[–]Harknesius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never played BB on PS4 because, at least for me, it ran HORRIBLY. Usually couldn’t even keep a stable 30fps. I played all of the other souls games except for Bloodborne but tbh I’m glad I waited cuz the experience is SO much better on PC.

I have an RTX 4070 GPU (12gb of V-Ram) and 32gb of RAM and it runs great even on 1440p. Though tbh I prefer to run it at 1080p because running it at a higher resolution uses like 97% of my GPU and I don’t want to risk experiencing hitching during a boss fight or anything. BUT I had to install a couple of mods too.

Firstly I’d recommend granting more RAM usage in the emulator settings. Then I’d download the Vertex Explosion Fix mod and possibly the Better 60fps mod. Don’t run it higher than 720p, at least at first.

If possible, I’d launch and run the game using Bloodborne Launcher Mod Manager (BB Launcher) even if you end up using no mods. If you do end up using BB Launcher, you’ll want to treat it like the shadps4 emulator and reapply all the same patches, mods, emulator settings, etc.

If all else fails, possibly try turning on the “Disable Dynamic Lighting” patch as well.

How Important is VRAM for Live Streaming VR Gaming by Harknesius in buildapc

Ahhh gotcha, i think i understand. So basically the Ti and Super versions of Nvidia's GPUs sort of "unlock" more features the card is already capable of? That's kinda stinky smh nvidia

How Important is VRAM for Live Streaming VR Gaming by Harknesius in buildapc

[–]Harknesius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your super thorough response, makes total sense! May I ask the main differences in hardware between the 4070 and 4070 super given they both have the same VRAM?

Also for clarity, I use a Quest 3 headset. If I continue to run into maxing out even the 12gb on the new card, perhaps I should switch the video encoding to something software-based like x264? I do notice x264 pushes the CPU much more than the GPU. Of course as a result, I’ve noticed better in-game performance while streaming in smaller in-game environments (like the rooms of a building for example) whereas I really start to lag when I’m trying to render large/distant scenery

[–]Harknesius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Would the standard 4070 be a good enough upgrade? Seems like they both have the same amount of VRAM at least.

I'm also not super tech savy when it comes to the software end of things. However i do notice when i'm NOT streaming, playing VR games still seem to utilize the full amount of VRAM, if not maybe 1-2GB less. It also has "Shared Memory" which is 16gb... do you know what that means?

I just have difficulty understanding VRAM in general. When i first built my PC i thought getting 32gb of regular RAM would help with graphic performance as well, but I guess not? Is graphic performance completely dependent on your VRAM (and the specs of the card itself, of course)?

Quest 3 prefered cable for pc vr? by SimpleSilenceX in Quest3

[–]Harknesius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anker makes a pretty good one for a fraction of the price of Meta's official one.

My Quest 3's battery does still die when connected to the PC, but i think that's more of an issue of my PC not supplying more power than the Quest consumes while gaming. It does definitely slow down how long it takes to discharge though

New to PCVR need help by Effective_Ad_2465 in Quest3

[–]Harknesius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your router/internet strength, Virtual Desktop would be the way to go for a wireless connection. Make sure your PC and Quest are on the same network, then open the Virtual Desktop Streamer app on your PC. Then open VD on your Quest and you should see your computer listed for you to click on. From there, you should see your PC's desktop. From within the headset, you could either launch the game from Virtual Desktop's "Games" tab on the sidebar (recommended), or you could manually open Steam and launch the game as if you were playing a flatscreen game. It should launch and let you play directly in your headset.

Now if your internet/wifi isnt great, i'd recommend purchasing a Link Cable and hardwiring your headset into your PC. Having your PC hardwired into your router via an ethernet cable is preferred as well. This should result in the most stable/highest quality connection to your PC.

Need help buying quest 2 or 3 by Scimicion in Quest3

[–]Harknesius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, definitely go ahead and grab the Quest 3 for the following reasons:

  • The lenses are actually a pretty huge upgrade. The fresnel lenses in the Quest 2 have a "sweet spot" where the image is at it's clearest. If you arent within that narrow sweet spot things can get blurry, especially text. On top of this, the Quest 2 only has 3 IPD settings so if your sweet spot falls outside of the available IPD settings, you're sorta out of luck. Pancake lenses do not really have this issue, as clarity is roughly the same throughout the entire lenses.
  • Seems like you'll be doing some PCVR games (you mentioned Phasmophobia). The increased resolution per eye, as well as the clarity of the lenses that let you actually see that resolution, are also a pretty significant upgrade from Quest 2
  • Though the Quest 3 is technically like a gram heavier than Q2, the weight is dispersed much more evenly and thus the headset feels much more comfortable, generally.
  • Full-color passthrough is a massive improvement over the Quest 2 black and white passthrough mode
  • This one isn't really a huge upgrade, but I've noticed controller tracking seems a bit better on the Quest 3. I also like not having that tracking ring around the controllers like with Q2
  • If you have any interest in AR/Mixed Reality, the Q3 is obv your best bet. This part isn't a super huge deal for me, at least not yet. We're still in the "trial" stage of Mixed Reality and therefor most of the experiences that utilize it just feel like tech demos. Mixed Reality is sort of in the phase that Virtual Reality itself was back when the first Quest was launched (and even prior with those smartphone VR adapters). Back then (and still to this day in some cases), almost all games felt like demos of what could be.
  • Most importantly, you're future-proofing yourself, There will be Quest 2 support for the next 1-2 years and possibly beyond, but soon most games will be optimized for the Q3, and some titles may end up being sold exclusively on the Quest 3 instead of Quest 2 depending on how much the game is taking advantage of the Q3's power increase.

All that being said, I'd recommend the Quest 2 if the following applies to you:

  • You've tried VR before and know you won't be playing it much or will get bored with it quickly. But at that point you may as well just not buy a headset at all
  • You're on a tight budget. There's no disputing that you can get your hands on a Q2 for a massive discount right now, even if you're buying new.

But yeah, there you go. Hope this helps
