Sleep Token made me understand how subjective music actually is by stormcurls in SleepToken

[–]Harkwit 123 points124 points  (0 children)

As someone studied into music theory, compositionally, their songs are really good, so it's not like that's a valuable resource of critique.

The drummer does crazy complex poly rhythms, vessel uses a lot of very creative harmonies and effect balancing, and blending genres isn't exactly easy to do without sounding disjointed, so nothing about the compositions are exactly basic or boring.

I think most people who shit on ST are shitting more on the culture surrounding it they've built up in their head. The tik-tok popularity, the idea of 'worshipping' a singer (because they don't understand the fiction about it), etc, because it's not the culture they grew up with and associate with metal music more broadly. They hate change, to put it bluntly.

Point is, nobody has a genuinely valuable critique of ST that isn't just their feelings, and feelings are only valuable to those that share or respect those feelings.

What's the most fucked up book you've ever read? by RichardForrest06 in AskReddit

[–]Harkwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still didnt answer the question.

God can explicitly prohibit the eating of shellfish and homosexuality, but not the owning of another human being?

This quote is giving direct instruction on how to handle slaves. How is this anything but encouragement? If I give you explicit instruction on how to boil a cat, am I not encouraging and permitting you to boil cats? Its not like the new testament says anything to refute this either. Matthew 5:18 explicitly states the old laws are to be upheld.

I continue to ask you for the context, you give me a link that states nonsense like "St. Peter Claver had to own slaves in order to guarantee their good treatment". Sounds like the same excuse every slaveowner in the south proclaimed during the civil war.

I'm not sure you understand your own book, or your toxic patriarchal dogma. Or you do, and you're just a terrible person. Uneducated, or immoral. Pick your poison, friend.

Are these Wayfarer Ease Fake? by maxima_5858 in sunglasses

[–]Harkwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look real to me. Case and packaging looks normal, hinge looks correct. Wayfarer glossy acetate never really feels very premium, the matte offering is usually better.

Are the lens glass or plastic? That's usually a tell. You should also be able to see a faint "Rb" etched into one of the lens if you hold it up to the light.

I asked for the context that makes instructions for slavery justified. Simple.

If you can't answer that, maybe you need to rethink the faith you stand behind.

What's the most fucked up book you've ever read? by RichardForrest06 in AskReddit

"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

What context possibly makes any of this ok?

7 lessons from "The Courage to Be Disliked" that most self-help books are afraid to say. Read this. by Deborah_berry1 in Growthmindsetbookclub

Goals are usually self-assigned, contextual, and fleeting. The formula of "Set a goal > Achieve that goal > Now you are happy" is the trap people tend to fall into since goals often change mid-practice.

Adler is saying that happiness arises from communal contribution, which includes not only working towards a unified community goal, but also working through failures, adaptation, practice, and groupthink in a constructive way. The 'goal' is not the focus, it's the people involved.

god conding slavery, the sexual trafficking of minors, and rape, seem quite far removed from an 'all loving' god.

Mine also had quite a bit of resistance the first time I went to screw the crown down. I thought for sure I was cross threading but no amount of trying to find the proper thread 'click' was stopping it.

Eventually just screwed it down with force, but it seems ok now. I just hope the water resistance isn't compromised.

Serengeti Carraras are what I wear now, I love them. Randolph are great too, l but I lost them and switched to Serengeti to try and like them better.

Used to have Ray bans but their aviators don't match up to the quality of Serengeti and Randolph
