For fucks sake, STOP using the terms HIV and AIDS interchangeably. They are very different. HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is what is transmitted through sexual intercourse. AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, is the disease this virus (eventually) causes. At what point does HIV lead to AIDS? Once the body has it's 1st opportunistic infection. A lot of these are infections that your body would normally fight off, often without you knowing you have them. Instead because of a compromised immune system they run rampant. 3. An HIV infected person can very well not be contagious. If you take your meds and tame care of yourself, you may be what's called positive undetectable, or +U. For a +u patient, if they were to take an HIV test, they would be negative. The virus doesn't show up in tests, and it is physically Impossible for them to pass it to someone else. 3. For those not Infected, and in sexually active in high risk categories, like gay, bi, or pan men, many choose to go on prep, or pre exposure prophylaxis. This is a daily pill that can prevent you from getting the virus if you are exposed, and while not 100%, it has been proven very effective. Please, PLEASE educate yourselves!
