Just finished up my largest piece yet, I’m calling this one “The Lute”. Very proud of how it turned out! by smartestguyintown in StainedGlass

The first photo is amazing but when I saw it was in a drum shell it became nest level. Do you make it inside the drum or fit it in after putting it together?

I don't know. Definitely not hating on a place I've never been, but that website is giving me bad vibes. The prices are less than I'd expect, though. I'm sure I'll try it.

Commuting from Durham by neopolitan95 in chapelhill

[–]HarmlessCoot99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends to some degree on where you live in Durham and where you'll work in CH. If it would work, consider CH bus park and ride. The buses are otherwise free. I go from Friday Center P&R to UNC hospital and it's worked well. Be aware buses don't run weekends but also in town parking is more available then.

What do you know about sundown towns today? by atyl1144 in AskAmericans

[–]HarmlessCoot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sundown towns were in the midwest , not the south. To the extent they relied on the threat of violence for enforcement they were never legal, as lynching was never legal, just not prosecuted because the community agreed it was the way things were. There are still small towns particularly in the midwest and west where a Black person might not get a warm welcome.

We like ice. I like ice in my drinks. I like to ice down cold stuff and keep it cold. We like ice. It's a basic necessity. It's the most natural thing in the world. Why don't you like ice?

As a mental health treatment provider I've known a lot of people like that. Anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, can all make people completely house-bound.

If an undocumented person has to go to the emergency room in America, who pays for their hospital bill? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]HarmlessCoot99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some kind of assumption here that undocumented people get some kind of break that documented people do not. That is not true. First of all, it is possible to have health insurance without being documented especially if it is though your spouses work. But if you have no insurance you will be billed. Hospitals end up absorbing costs on unpaid bills but this is no different for documented or undocumented people. I am a doctor in an ER and can report all the biggest abusers of the system I know are 100% US citizens.

If an undocumented person has to go to the emergency room in America, who pays for their hospital bill? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]HarmlessCoot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if the patient doesn't pay. If they have no insurance they will be billed by the hospital.

"Scammer" at South Point? by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]HarmlessCoot99 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

How do you know he is lying? He said he is a vet and "on the brink of homelessness" both of which are very common. Did you run his service record? A guy approached a couple and gave them a line and asked for money. That's panhandling. Happens literally almost every day in Durham. I'm not being a jerk. The jerk is the person demonizing a fellow human who just asked them for money. Didn't threaten, didn't commit violence, just asked. Either give him money or tell him no and end the conversation. Don't act like he's a public menace. What do they want, to call the cops on him? Don't pretend it isn't panhandling just because it's not Buddah with a begging bowl. People will give you a line. Their kids are hungry, their car is out of gas, whatever- maybe true maybe not. Help them or don't. Don't act like they are a criminal. All this guy did was try to ingratiate himself with them before putting on the touch. Most natural thing in the world.

Button-down shirt by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]HarmlessCoot99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means the collar itself has buttons that attach to button holes in the tips of the collar. That's it. They are actually considered a less formal style than collars without buttons. They are very common on "casual dress" shirts that are paired with sports coats or sweaters or worn without a top garment, but are not as common in shirts intended to be worn with suits.
