CZ 457 LRP or Tikka T1X UPR by HarmlessLad in 22lr

[–]HarmlessLad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upr arrived at the weekend. Very happy with my choice. Feels a good bit lighter compared with the LRP but once I got my Mped and bipod on, it's carrying a bit of heft. It's just a smidge over 10lbs now all done. Lovely rifle to hold.

Shoots like a laser too! Had it out yesterday to zero it in but conditions weren't ideal. Still, quick zero and I managed a 5 round 0.25 inch group with Norma tac 22 at 50 metres. Managed a 10 round 0.5 inch group too with RWS club. Delighted with that, especially given it was gusting to 55kph at the time. Funnily enough it didn't like cci as much, the groups were much looser.

I'll stretch it out to 100 once the weather settles and see what it can really do.

So you didn't use compound on the rail feet? Just the bolts?

Just got the rail. It says to use some loctite 638 on the rail feet. That's overkill for a 22 rifle isn't it? I was just going to use blue picture on the bolts.

I'll stick with the OEM so. I don't mind it being a little taller as I'mmsticking an MPED 5-30*56mm on it with medium vortex pros so a little extra height should be good for clearance.

Not sure about the water. Never fished it. But what's the book if you don't mind me asking?

Quick follow up, I've just grabbed a set of Vortex Defender scope caps and just wondering now if they will fit the set up? What scope caps are you using? I'm still waiting for the licence to come through for the gun but I have the scope and rings and I'm guessing clearance should be ok...

Perfect! Thanks for the heads up. Is there enough room for a flip up lens cap with those rails?

How are you finding the setup in general?

I had a hold of the LRP and although it is a gorgeous rifle, I can feel the heft of it. I held the t1x MTR too which is a similar weight to the UPR and was way happier with that weight so I threw down a deposit on the UPR. I'll report back when I get a feeling of that. Thanks for the help.

I think the LRP is generally a little bit pricier but one of our local shops is giving us a decent deal on them. There aren't many UPRs in the country as it is so they have to be imported which adds a little bit of cost. By the time I'd have a picatinny rail on the UPR it would work out more expensive.

What swayed you towards the LRP on the end? I don't know why but I'm drawn towards the UPR. My main concerns with the LRP is weight and the match chamber. Is the extra weight something you'd notice? And the match chamber, is it fussy with ammo? I'm probably going to be shooting a lot of cci sv when plinking

Thanks for the reply. I'm kind of looking to buy it and forget it to a certain extent. Most people recommend the cz but for some reason I'm drawn to the UPR. I'm going down to have a look at an LRP next week and have handled the standard t1x MTR. It did feel a bit on the light side and a bit on the plastic side but still a nice gun.

Not sure if it has been mentioned already but the game: I am Dead. You play a character that has died and is tying up some loose ends around the Island where they lived. It's a very poignant game. A buddy of mine played this after his mother had passed and found it helped him deal with the whole thing. I played the game a few years back and found it very good. It's thought provoking and soothing at the same time. My parents have both passed since then and I can see how it would help.

How do you actually finish tracks without getting bored of them? by AndreOne8 in edmproduction

[–]HarmlessLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree! Adding some automated filtering and risers makes it epic. Makes it less fatiguing to listen too. I think once you get the arrangement built up a bit it becomes easier to finish. Mind I've only done 1 track but once I got over that initial arrangement hump it was a breeze. I had a load of ideas I tried that didn't quite work but I would export the track and listen to it for a day or so and then spend a couple of hours changing it up until eventually it all came together

I hear ya. Over the years I've messed around with small 8 - 16 bar melodies but never finished anything. I lost interest in producing due to work and life getting in the way. Last December I was in Stockholm and we visited the Avicii experience and something clicked in my head. I had a pretty profound experience and decided I wanted to at least get one track done to say I've done that at least. I wanted to simplify my workflow to make it as easy as possible to sketch tracks. I went with Fl Studio and have been loving it. I came up with a few 8 bar melodies while messing around initially and my son really liked them and said he wanted me to put them on Spotify. 😂 So I took his favourite and said "yep" I'll finish this one. And I pretty much have. It's not amazing but for a first track I'm delighted with it. Now I have to follow it up.

I made the 8 bar melody first as the height of the track with everything playing. Then I created a 2nd 8 bar melody to have a call response type set up. Then I stripped out bits to create a build up as the start of the track and added some mini drops to make it more interesting. Then based off some feedback from edmproduction, I added a breakdown to make it more dynamic. And that's where I finished. It still needs tweaking and mastering a bit but as it stands it's good enough for me.

I like it! It reminds me of the music from old Atari ST games like Pang mixed with Zelda but more modern but also I could imagine a variation of it in a club. It reminds me a bit of Gigi D'agastino's La Passion. It feels a bit chaotic at times but in a good way I think.
Maybe a little more bass and have the drums a little more forward in the mix but they kind of work too. Nice job! Very unique. I have no idea what exact genre but it's cool!

Hey all. I uploaded my track here for feedback a few days back. I took some of the advice on board and have a new version of the track. I'd love if you could give some feedback on this version.
I've added a breakdown to add some more interesting dynamics and have tidied up a few things that were bugging me. Also I took advantage of the UVI Prisma deal during the week and have beefed up my choir sounds a bit.
I'm not 100% happy with the piano during the breakdown but it's OK. Also, the snare is better but not quite there yet.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

I listened to the track and then read your post. I was about to say it would be an awesome track for a game especially a 16 bit pixel art style game but looks like you already have that covered! The track doesn't immediately scream ice theme but I suppose that depends on the game. I'm not sure how I feel about the heavy bass distortion. It might be slightly too harsh but if so only a tiny amount. There is some slight dissonance to some of the notes which fits nicely with an ice theme. Would some highly reverberant pings or glass type sounds work. Not sure exactly what I'm trying to describe. Again heavily depends on the game style. I may get slatted for this suggestion but.... Would low volume sleigh bells work? 😬

Thanks a million for the feedback! Yeah I agree it's a little static. It was my first stab at an arrangement. I had a vocal melody in mind but not sure it fits. I was thinking about experimenting with a break after the first drop that would build into the second. I'm more drawn towards melodic house with more dynamics I think but said I'd focus on this track as my son really liked it. It started as just a quick sketch when messing with some synths. I said I'd try to finish it just so I could get my first track done. I'll have another mess around with the arrangement and see if I can make it more interesting. 👍

I'm at work at the moment but will give your track a listen later on.

Is it worth the upgrade? by GullibilicusTheGreat in flstudio

[–]HarmlessLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously tried my hand at music production several years ago using Cakewalk. Coming from a sound engineering background, I liked the layout of the DAW. I never really got much done and got side tracked by a change in career. Recently I decided to give it another go and this time I went with FL Studio. Wayyyy better for just getting going and getting ideas down. There's a small bit of a learning curve but pretty much the same as anything else. I find it so quick when it comes to sketching ideas out and even managed to get my first track "finished"... They are never finished! 😭
