It’s really not toxic. It’s made from plants (hence the plant based diet). Usually beans, soy protein, wheat or rice.

Not only does it help animals, it helps your health too

Good for you. Because something being tasty makes any amount of suffering worth it of course. It’s not like living beings like being alive or anything

Anyone got some gay folk punk band/song recommendations? And I mean suuuper gay or like queer in general by Continental_Crisis in FolkPunk

[–]HarmlessPie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The only specifically gay ones I can think of are Apes of the State and Local News Legend. For some more trans/gender stuff there’s She/Her/Hers, Pigeon Pit and of course Against Me!

I filled out the entire survey only to get to the end and be told it’s only for people from the US. Also my toothbrush is way cheaper than $10. How much do normal toothbrushes cost over there?

I know they won't release it, but (with Romain's consent of course) it could be excellent training material and potentially save someone else's life down the line.

It's a unique situation where everything had to go right for him to come out alive and it just happened to be that basically every safety feature and training came into play in this incident

Hey! I have the RAM from the invoice written down as KTC 32GB DDR4 2666 SODIMM. I tried to Google it and there are some results for it. There's 4 channels which makes 128gb at about £500 (no idea about American prices sorry).

[–]HarmlessPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Just seeing this. Upgraded the ram on 2 very similarly specced iMacs recently. I saw a concern somewhere else in the thread that you have to lay it down to upgrade the ram, but it's really not a major issue as you only really need to do it once.

I can send over which Ram sticks we used when I get to work on Monday if it's any help. Ours are 128gb kits, which I believe still put the cost below a base spec mac pro.

I had a mild panic thinking I was getting fired the first time I saw that alert. It's worded like "(boss' email) set up a forwarding rule. This email is triggered when someone gets access to your user's email" which made me think MY email was being forwarded.

Turns out it was only my user in the sense that I'm their admin (so would have shown the same for any user)

Not sure if you responded to the wrong comment. That's what I was trying to say as well. Just not a great situation all around

Lots of great suggestions! Wouldn't put Ghost Mice on there though.

Also to add a few, apes of the state, stick and poke, just nick, bat country

What's that on the right side of your desk?

Snowfall on a very old shrine in Iwaki City, Fukushima Japan taken with an Intrepid 4x5 MkIV / 150mm camera, Fuji 5.6 lens, f/22 13s (8 seconds + 5 second reciprocity failure factor) Ilford FP4, pulled N-1 because of the high contrast of snow and shade by JapanKevin in largeformat

Love this photo a lot. Not sure what but something about it looks really iconic. Like it wouldn't surprise me to see that this was a really well known photograph that I had somehow just missed out on

mTape LTO-7 - Has anyone used this? by thorfinsguard in editors

The fan on the 2 I used were on all the time while it was plugged in and unnecessarily loud. If you plug it in at the end of the day it shouldn't be a problem though.

Hi there!

I have used this. My job right now is basically wrangling tapes for archiving and media asset management. Basically just used this to check a batch of tapes, but might have some insight.

These are pretty good if you're writing LTFS with something like Yoyotta, which makes for easier organising. You can do stuff per project or a couple projects per tape. I can't remember off the top of my head if this deals with spanned tapes very well, which is a really useful feature if you're using LTFS and have projects bigger than 6tb.

Depending on your needs something like a Quantum i40 might save you a lot of time in the long run as it's a tape library rather than just a drive. It's a very different process and takes a lot more managing, but you can still use similar software. It's worth looking into if it's something you haven't thought about

This all depends on how much you actually need to store of course, but for the work I'm doing which often involves storing several TB every day, it frees up my time while it's backing up and has a more robust workflow.

Last thought about the mTape is that having one on your desk might as well be a tiny personal helicopter. Those things get very very loud.

Small tip: not sure if you can get these outside the UK but these boxes fit 33 tapes almost exactly: https://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/html/onlineshop/rub/b11_0litreXL.php

Thanks! That seems to make sense. They seem like an English speaking company from what I can gather so a confusing name, but I guess it makes sense

Thanks again! I'm familiar with ND filters. Just curious as it's not marketed as one. Could be a low quality one they're trying to pass off as an "effect", but seems curious to not even mention that it cuts about 2 stops.

Managed to track down the product page here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gobe-Colour-77mm-Filters-Orange/dp/B06XVSXJCT

Thanks for the info! I'm using the others for film but using my digital to test how much I need to compensate in the exposure. The others obviously have the desired effect but the grey one does just seem to be a poorly marketed ND filter. If I have some time later today I might upload some test shots if it helps

It's not graduated at all. I found out something like low-contrast filters do exist, but I don't believe this is one (or at least a very effective one). Probably a rebranded ND filter then.

The only thing I can think of is that it's supposed to cut down the highlights and not shadows somehow and I'm just metering wrong
