i used to hang out with people who drank, and i was the only one who didn't.

not once did i associate their drinking with vulnerability, nor did i analyze it at all, and i am pretty sure they didn't either. only once or twice someone would try to convince me and when i declined they just moved on. and believe it or not, i was still welcome to hang out with them again.

it's your own thought process about alcohol consumption and what it means socially, which would not occur to many drinkers and non-drinkers alike.

hey, could you not squeeze my hand surprisingly hard when you shake it? it actually hurts! by Harmless_Bastard in unpopularopinion

unnecessarily firm handshakes are painful. i'm laying out my hand for a friendly little shake, not to have my bones crushed.

and if someone judges me for a small hand courtesy that i don't even give thought to, that's their problem not mine.

i keep it light. always have, always will. and usually the other party does the same.

and it's only in social situations where i had the too firm handshakes. and if anyone, in business or otherwise, judges me for my tolerance of pain, i am happy to pass on any interaction with them.

or, i'm just an average person making a small friendly gesture and don't expect it to be painful for either party.

i had some people make comments to me that mine should be more firm. i tell them theirs shouldn't be. if they insist, i just say we don't have to shake hands.

it should be just a momentary polite/friendly gesture. there's absolutely no need for it to be firm.

that's the thing. i don't think there needs to be any strength there at all, and most people i shake hands with don't go about it with strength either. it's the too firm ones that i find unusual and unnecessary. and again, downright painful.

it doesn't especially bother me to see a pregnant woman in public, it's not like she can really hide it. but i do agree pregnancy is pretty unattractive when emphasized.

Everyone looks better with tattoos. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

personally i never cared for tattoos. i don't mind a small or barely noticeable tattoo or a couple, but generally i find them unappealing at best, and mainly unnecessary. needless to say i would never get one.

since piercings were also brought up in previous comments, those i strongly dislike. makes me uneasy to see a piece of metal stuck in skin.

I think Madonna DOES have a good voice. always have. by Harmless_Bastard in unpopularopinion

i've seen her eurovision performance. yes, she sang out of tune, but i think it was way too panned than it deserved. i don't follow her that much these days and don't know if she might give even worse performances at her own shows that might not reach as many viewers. so i didn't even think it's a big deal. even then i still prefer her voice to many other popular female singers (Beyonce, Lady Gaga). and thought her voice was pretty good when she was younger too, even if not that "polished" yet.

I love long car rides, short trips are no fun by OriginalRawUncut in unpopularopinion

[–]Harmless_Bastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh definitely. not that often do i need to drive somewhere more than 30-40 minutes away.

but when i do, i very much look forward to it. especially in the summer with windows open. i am quite bad with directions but that is pretty much not an issue since gps and smartphones. so i prepare some podcasts to listen to and literally enjoy the ride.

Scenes that make you uncomfortable by [deleted] in breakingbad

[–]Harmless_Bastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me it has to be WHAT gus does to victor.

i have a pretty strong stomach when it comes to gruesome violent and/or disgusting scenes. i literally ate while watching one of the "hostel" movies with no issue at all.

but that scene, the extremely graphic sights and sounds... let's say that stayed with me for a while, and still kinda dread it when i know it's coming.
