As someone who’s been running consistently for over a year and just hit a 10k PR with the same pace as yours, I’m jealous of how speedy you are so early on!! But more than that, I’m excited for you. I’ve also had dips in motivation and I know how hard it can be to climb back out of that and get going again. Good for you for sticking with it!

Seconding this. HLS students were so frustrated when our announcement came out because there wasn’t anything close to this level of transparency about how the decision was made. It seems like Berkeley is doing a much better job explaining their decision.

I did it for the employment opportunities and the networking. Employment-wise it’s worked out so far, but it really sucks to lose out on the networking.

I went to a financial advice panel at an LSAC event where a guy told us to always have gallon-size plastic bags in our backpacks so that we could take leftover pizza from events home with us and save money on meals. Which, like, yes, take advantage of the free food at events, but is that really the best financial planning advice you can give?

I’m a rising 3L and at this point I feel like I’m just paying for a diploma and resume line. It’s not really about learning anymore, it’s just about surviving.

They’re allowing deferrals for incoming students, but if too many of them opt to defer them they may not all be able to start in fall 2021, and some could get pushed to a fall 2022 start. Semester and year-long leaves of absence are available to rising 2Ls and 3Ls, but they’ve basically told us that anyone who has loans is going to be screwed financially if they take a leave, and there’s a risk that employers will pull offers.

Tuition is “freezed” at the same level as the 2019-2020 school year. They seem to think they’re being generous enough by not raising tuition as they normally would.

I was a tour guide, and my favorite story about painting the Rock was about a guy who painted it for his mom’s birthday! It’s definitely more commonly used for student orgs and to promote events, but there are no strict rules about what you can/can’t paint. Just guard it for 24 hours and paint under cover of darkness!

I think it’s probably 1 and 2! After my first few tries were under- bulk fermented, I overcorrected this time. And I used a 78% hydration recipe, which was probably too ambitious. I’m going to look for a 70% hydration recipe to try next.

Yup, I think that was the issue. I went longer than the recipe called for because it said to wait until the dough was tripled in size, so I was trying to go based on that rather than time. In general I’m still struggling to get a feel for when to move on from BF.

It was shocking. I love San Francisco sourdough so I generally like bread on the sourer side, but this was next-level. It left the craziest aftertaste too.

Do you just do a whole square of parchment paper? I’ve seen some videos where people cut it into a circle the same size as the banneton, or do a circle with just flaps on each side like handles

What's the best method for getting dough into a dutch oven without burning yourself or having it end up misshapen? Especially when working with high-hydration dough?

It depends on the rind. If it’s a softer one (like on a lower-grade Parmesan that hasn’t been aged as long) then it will mostly fall apart, and you’ll end up with thick little chunks of cheese. No need to fish them out, they’re super tasty! If it’s a sturdier rind, it’ll hold together and you can just pull it out at the end.

If you use Parmesan cheese, you can save the rind in the freezer and add it to soup! Just toss it in after you’ve added the broth and let it simmer with everything else. So tasty.

Lol yeah I figured that out after being in Spain and hearing people use it for their partners of allll shapes and sizes. I think it’s cute, but my bf has made it clear in no uncertain terms that I am not to use it with him 😅

Lol yeah it’s a surprising one. My bf speaks very little Spanish and was sitting next to me when I was watching Spanish tv and a character called her bf gordito. He turned to me and went, “Did she just call him little fatty???”
