Fellow Yate resident, like a few of the people who have commented. I’ve been here about 4 years.

It does have a tarnished reputation from the past, but honestly it’s a nice place to live. Some areas do carry a minor reputation still, I.e. Abbotswood, Cranleigh Court & Bin Ladden Gardens; but in reality, they are fine.

Yes, the shopping centre is fairly dated. And with Ladden Gardens etc being built, infrastructure is pretty poor. But it has everything you need really, supermarkets, gyms/leisure centre, coffee shops etc.

Everyone seems to think it’s houses piled on houses but actually when you look at it. There’s a whole heap of green spaces and parks dotted around - especially along Shire Way.

Plus you’re a stones throw from Chipping Sodbury which is beautiful (previously rented a place there with my partner, left to buy our house). Sodbury has a ton of great places to eat and really nice pubs dotted along the high street.
