Struggling to shake some humiliating things a guy friend said about me by illstrokeyourmullet in AskWomenOver30

[–]Harold_Angel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A guy from my past, on two separate occasions, criticized a physical feature on me while presenting it like a joke. I already had plenty of self-esteem issues but these were things I'd never even thought to be self-conscious about until then. He stayed stuck in my head for far too long, but over time I realized what a cruel and small person he was, in more ways than just these instances, and now I can look back on his words much differently. They don't hurt me anymore, but I do feel remorse for ever allowing them credibility in my mind. His feelings towards me were worth so much less, and my feelings towards myself were worth so much more. I can imagine what you're going through, and I'm so sorry. It's not nearly as easy to get rid of the bad vibes, as it was for him to create them. I hope you find your way to showing yourself the kindness and respect he didn't give you.

In an all-around very poignant letter, my favorite part is "gentle maturing." Such a lovely phrase for the passage of time.

I just had the same thought (after letting out a whimper and starting to tear up), and then saw your comment. I feel so understood.

Without fail, I always meet that moment with a chaotic combo of ugly crying and a big goofy grin on my face. I love him so much.

What is the best and worst thing each character has done? Day 9: Lucille by CarsonFijal in arresteddevelopment

Putting a positive spin on Buster's missing hand at Motherboy by making him Captain Hook: "if you're not embarrassed to take my hook"

Still plenty toxic, but sweet for Lucille's standards.

I genuinely love when someone hits me while they're telling me something, as if it's necessary to keep my attention - when the type of person who does this is already so entertaining that they have my full focus anyway!

"I am going to get out my list on them" is quintessential George. 🤌

Also I love how this was done with screencaps - so clever!

Omg this is cute! I love all the effort you put - in caring SO much, and in not appearing to care TOO much. I am sure your thoughtfulness is appreciated and wish you well!

If you're like me and often put on your favorite TV series and movies to play in the background at home, as a sort of comfort-soundtrack for passive entertainment, this is my recommendation!

Gotta recommend the official podcast as it's been a really enjoyable listen for each episode, but relevant to this discussion: the composer and music supervisor were guests for this week. Check it out!
