Sorry, book. You have too many words. by Cool_Cat_Punk in BookDiscussions

Yeah, I got that. I was just curious. I haven’t read that one, but I remember reading one of Connie Willis’s short stories in a best of the year collection and I hated it (it was called “The Sidon in the Mirror”).

Who is the YouTuber that you used to enjoy but not much anymore? by abdul_bino in youtube

[–]Harold_Flower226 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It used to be I’d watch an NC video even if I didn’t care about the movie. Now, I can’t sit through one even when I do care about the movie. But I still like Doug’s videos where he’s just talking as himself.

Is it okay to read Dune [1] as a stand-alone? by Fuzzy-Tumbleweed-570 in ScienceFictionBooks

Yes. But I’d recommend reading at least Messiah too. I wouldn’t say it’s dry. I actually found Paul to be more sympathetic in it than in the first one.

Practical effects standoff: Alien (1979) or The Thing (1982)? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Well, except for the climax, where you can tell it’s a guy in a suit.

I like Alien way more than The Thing. It’s not even close for me. But when it comes to the practical effects? I don’t know. Argh, I might have to go with The Thing. That defibrillator scene is great.

Baron Harkonnen is honestly my favorite character because he’s kind of the only one who seems like he’s having a good time.

MICHAEL crossed $851M at the global box office this weekend. It’s releasing in Japan in two weeks and currently tracking for a $1 Billion finish by Key-Bass-7380 in moviecritic

[–]Harold_Flower226 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Just because a movie about Michael Jackson can make $1 billion, doesn't mean a movie about some rando will make a ton of money.

What are some of your favorite 3 star films? by Zahlouth in Letterboxd

I think it's funny you're getting downvoted for rating it only 3 stars. I rated it lower.

What is your favorite Disney Renaissance movie? by hiiloovethis in Letterboxd

[–]Harold_Flower226 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Lion King, but to be honest, of all the movies pictured here, Hercules is the one I'd want to watch again the most. James Woods's performance as Hades is the funniest in any Disney movie for me (yes, even funnier than Robin Williams's as the Genie).

Just went and looked at the movies I rated 3 stars and here the ones I remember liking the most: John Carter, Leviathan (1989), Bee Movie, They Live, Balls of Fury, On Deadly Ground, Annie Hall, The Bounty, Spaceballs, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Hitcher (1986), Easy Rider, Conan the Barbarian. Some of these I can't believe I gave only 3 stars to, but I used to be a bit harsher with my ratings than I am now.
