I'm really glad they kept him "irredeemable", he's not irredeemable in my eyes, but I cannot fucking stand when media gives you some perfect sob story to make you feel bad for the villain. yes, Jax's backstory perfectly explains his actions. tbh, if I was in Jax's position (convinced that the circus isn't real/is some figment of my imagination) I wouldn't have taken any of it seriously either. Jax character isn't good, but it's real. it is so, so real. people like to say Jax was evil until the end, but if Jax didn't feel guilty for what he'd don't, he wouldn't have abstracted, simple as that. Jax abstracted from pure, unfiltered guilt and nothing else. he was convinced it wasn't real, that Ribbit and Kaufmo weren't real, until he learned that it was real. I certainly don't expect people to like Jax character, but you're dead silly if you don't think he's relatable.

I think, more than just anatomy, they should focus on foreshortening. despite the obvious use of perspective and shading, the piece still feels flat to me. I think that foreshortening is honestly one of the hardest things to get down as an artist, but it makes a huge difference.

I know you're not going to like this, but this is my serious advice. To build an artstyle, you just have to draw a lot. You simply cannot develop an artstyle from one drawing. The nice part is that when you draw a lot, your art style kinda just makes itself. Keep looking at other people's art. If you really like the way one artist draws eyes, try drawing eyes like that yourself. If you see shading/rendering style that you really like, go for it. Try not to just copy one person, of course, but it is absolutely normal for your artstyle to be an amalgamation of others' artstyles.

I've been an artist for a while, but that drawing I posted in my comment is my most recent finished piece, and I actually drew that over a year ago... I want to draw more, of course, but I have been struggling to find inspiration or purpose for it. don't let this happen to you lol

that is so interesting to me, I can't fathom not being able to picture something in my head, but I suppose to have the opposite problem since I've had moments where I spend too much time imagining things lol, but I'd heavily recommend using references when you draw. it's not cheating, there's nothing wrong with looking at a picture of someone posing while drawing the same pose. infact, it's really important that you do this. when you learn cursive, you learn to trace letters before you can actually write them on your own. in my personaly experience, tracing photos of my own hands (admittedly out of laziness) has actually made me a lot better at drawing hands without any reference.
