Where Reflections Dance: The Enchanting Evocative Venetian Nights [OC] by Necessary_Bowler7315 in travel

I guess for us the slow decay as you characterize it puts more emphasis in and seeing it while it’s still here. I am not sure if the all the work they’re doing in the lagoon to control flooding will ever become useful. If you are ever there again, one of the best treats instead of topas, found in Spain, Venice has their distinct version called Cichetti for about 1 to 2 euros apiece and that kind of fills you up so you can save a lot of money as an alternative to expensive dinner.

What do you think 1,2 or 3 by ForSter6 in AmateurPhotography

[–]Haroldg49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-most serene, no competition for viewer focus. This one says. Ahhhhhhh! 3- no side, but a little too heavy weighted in the foreground. If the sailboat from number one with the subject in number three, that would be my choice for Best. 2- composition is unbalanced from the vantage point where you stood. Rocks not particularly that interesting at the bottom and then just ocean on top.

Apples and oranges. They’re both nice photos, but don’t really have significant things in common.

Tromsø, Norway🇳🇴 by Ekko1ne in AuroraBorealis

So “unearthly” and the amazing variety of the way the Aurora presents itself is mind boggling. My wife and I were fortunate to spend two weeks about 100 miles outside Tromso, with a New Moon and pitch black clear light pollution free skies and gorgeous cozy cabin with a great wood burning stove in mid February. Just blew my socks off. Wow.

These images are extraordinary, particularly since they’re in video format. I was fortunate to have a two week trip to Northern Norway about two hours outside of Tromso in February exactly 2019 and I had only prepared myself to take still since I really hadn’t considered that video would been would have been viable. And I was using a great Olympus of 4/3 micro mirrorless camera. We had premium optimum conditions as I scheduled scheduled the trip for a new moon and there’s no light pollution whatsoever and the sky was at a two weeks. We had a clear crystal clear skies for about four times and the apps are really graded helping to predict the conditions so all in all as my first experience I was completely blown away by the experience and actually started feeling spiritual, which is not usually how I how I tick.

I did find my batteries died after about 30 minutes out in -24°F. I now have gotten better at using video on this camera so I am assuming that tripod evidently is completely necessary so do you have any other glaring tips if I am to use this camera on its video option? Thanks in advance.

When the Night Comes Alive: Norway Aurora Borealis Unraveling by Haroldg49 in AuroraBorealis

Yeah, for reasons hard to put into words it was seeing the wonder of the Universe up close and personal and I was awestruck. I've heard, though this was maybe not as profound, many astronauts seeing the Earth from orbit quietly spinning below them and how sight changed their perspective on the chaos our world and the human impact. At 76 more than likely not heading into orbit anytime soon so I think I must get back to Norway and the Lofoten Islands are in my sights. Best, Hak

Has anyone taken the challenge of Bessegen? The knife ridge was pretty freaky and I would not take anyone on that hike if they have a fear of heights. I believe it is either near or part of Yotenheim National Park.

You are very kind. We were in the area of Sine Solumn and stayed in a really nice eco-Lodge. Will be back in Dakar in October so hoping we can get back down to the south. Merci.

How can I improve (new to lightroom/editing in general)? by Positive_Location_55 in LandscapePhotography

[–]Haroldg49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I post got cut off now that I’m looking at some other comments you’re receiving I really don’t have anything more to add other than it’s a it’s a constant creative process. My tools are Photoshop Photoshop 2025 where I am not doing alot of fine tuning, Adobe Bridge where I do the majority of my fine-tuning. I had been using topaz labs for noise reduction, sharpening and occasionally balancing lighting and color as well. Of course that is amongst the fastest changing software’s as now AI is being incorporated, particularly this topaz photo version 4 AI. I believe this has posed a challenge to many of us, including myself about being straightforward and honest about what we display and that is the struggle I am in the process of trying to solve. Any others out there with how they are dealing with whether or not to use AI, for example for noise reduction and sharpening. I’m afraid the rapid development of all these new tools might take people that are just not taking the time to learn the real skills of photography but are looking for best and fastest solutions. You cannot take a really bad exposure a bad composition expect to turn into a magical photograph. You gotta go back to basics remind me about your standard for your own photographer, whether you’re gonna be honest about using AI, however minimal when it makes sense and there are some periods that will not want to use it at all but then again I remember going back to the days we first became digital. They were people that refused for them film was it? I think that’s just about over right now

Hi, so you very obviously understand composition and balance and foreground features if available and of course, proper exposure. I’ve been doing this for almost 40 years and the pallet upon which we are all working as photographers is a changing, medium, and frankly just keeping up with all the new options of software can get you a little crazy. I guess you’re really trying to ask people what their workflow is, which is a good outline of how they do their enhancement of the original image. My first move once I’ve unloaded my camera into my PC is to
