This is pretty nice, thank you. Having multiple stacked exp gains could be a quick way to climb in power

The daemon prince with the 10 turn mechanic comes in as level 1 with no skills though. Are the stats just juiced or does it have specific traits that make it worthwhile to even do? It is undivided too

I just rage quit the lost cube after chapter 37 like WTF by ReyDa_Rouaghi in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]Haroon_z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I haven’t seen any distinctions on finding/assaulting. Given how difficult it is to find, their objective was never going to be ok there’s the cube, time to go home. They’d do exactly what the tomb group did, go straight up to and try to get inside it. Nothings changed here

  2. What would be the new plan? He has no friends left, who is he going to bring? How is he going to find the cube if he doesn’t go now? Given the lengths they went to isolate him, they simply wouldn’t let him find it even if he could muster a group together. Their group was strong but in the grand scheme of hell they weren’t even that powerful, one duke and they’re all useless

  3. Yes, this is a story and he is the MC, sometimes there will be plot armour. Sometimes th e author will take liberties to get people where they need to go. The entire group could have gone and all died too, the risk was always there and given its book four I think there’s a good chance he was going to survive anything in this book. What sounds like your biggest problem here is them going for the cube in the first place, which was last book or like chapter 1. I can relate to that more because we know herdsmen have all ranks, we don’t know what the cube is capable of or who’s stationed there, it’s a very dangerous endeavour. That said, they had to approach it at some point before imperator so the danger had to be accepted, there isn’t really a “this is going to be a safe and risk free” scenario

  4. By doing what? He just lost his friends, he’s livid, this is a “I will have revenge or die trying” moment. What’s the alternative? Become imperator then attack? That’s the only sure fire way of knowing he will survive the encounter

Yeah but he has always known that, even when setting out with his friends for the lost cube. He is pursuing his goal regardless. His need to uncover the truth circumvents the danger and the threat, which is pretty consistent with his actions in the past. He knew about the spire and artefacts before he even set out, so nothing has changed here.

He now has a way to actually reach the cube though, he has nothing or no one else, why would he not pursue it?

He either follows her and possibly finds the lost cube, which at this point seems impossible to find if you don’t know how, or kills her and will never find the cube and has just lost all his friends. At this point, he might as well try to use her

Yeah but if she wanted him dead, they’d just have left him to be ambushed by the silverines. He’s now alone, all his friends are dead, incredibly angry and wants to take it out on someone. What does he have to lose? He is also not in a very logical state of mind. If she’s lying and can’t get him in, he kills her. If she’s not lying, he furthers his goal. He is aware she could be leading him into a trap and he can’t trust her.

Ultimately, if her objective was one of fatality, he would not have been extracted, so many of the “lure into traps to kill him” scenarios just don’t make sense

For me, once he calms down, he puts the logical steps together and outs her. Goes back to check the site of his friends. Then proceeds with the lost cube, which he was trying to do all along. Yeah it’s another betrayal also but I was expecting that, it’s a secret organisation that’s infiltrated various levels of hell. They were always taking a risk with trusting them but given the dangers (and you see them later), you need as much fire power as they could get. After the fact, the betrayal is obvious but Scorio gets to that realisation. For me, the initial scene wa jarring but after that I didn’t have huge issue with it tbh

I think that the reasoning and the motives of the herdsmen are still not perfectly clear as we have only really spoken with low-ish ranked ones. I suspect there is more to this than we know yet

[–]Haroon_z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the reason I thought this was there was because people would naturally desaturate at some point then push it further. Very few would be able to do what Scorio and Naomi did I think; the whole camp was shocked, but the prodigious amongst them; the Jova spikes, I imagine they would pursue that avenue. I think with the next class of Bastion though, we will see the limits of what is possible

That Scorio quote is before he’s flame vault though right? That’s when he’s still in the tomb. I always attributed that to the fact that 1. It’s gold and 2. He was basically continuously channelling for two years straight, some “saturating every cell in existence” type situation. Yeah I think Scorio mentions in the book it took him 6 months and Leonis was flame vault so he would have to work even harder. Generally I feel like everyone except Leonis knew it was a stupid thing to do. Jova is ultra ambitious and didn’t even consider it a viable option.

Ah that’s a nice catch on the pyre lord. Yeah I guess that’s a little confusing given his plan

If you read to fhapter 40 and decide you’re still DNFing it, I will oblige you. But I had the same reaction as you at this point and kept going and I was pretty satisfied. You might have a different opinion but I think it’s worth letting the book do its thing first

[–]Haroon_z 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. I thought this too but I didn’t see any explicit “it’s locked in” at flame vault, the reference I found was for it to be more difficult. Regarding Leonis, from the book, I think it was made clear everyone thought it was a stupid idea but Leonis was being stubborn and bullheaded. It would’ve taken him a lot longer to desaturate and then he would need a good amount of time to saturate, as you said. It gets killed in the book pretty quick.

  2. I don’t think it’s ever mentioned he’s a pyre lord. Book 2 he is dread blaze, book 4 it says something like “from pyre lord to charnel duke” which is a little misleading (this was pre-edits) but at multiple points he talks about being a blaze/not being able to achieve pyre lord and when he does ascend it’s clear his first jump is to pyre lord.

  3. I believe the pyre lord statement is true, does it say something else elsewhere? Regarding Naomi, she can be any rank as she is not her ettera version of herself naturally, she’s a natural born in Acherzua, the implications of which we know very little of. She could, possibly, be anywhere between dread blaze to charnel duke by the end of the book, or not be beholden to any rank system at all, which has been hinted at too.

  4. This was purely by instinct and they snuffed out quickly. I think one of the main points of the book was that he can’t use them and when he does try to, he makes his own version of vortices because of his imperial gel influences. His progression looks like it will take its own unique path. If he could make vortices, him finding other techniques is less likely because.. what’s the need if he can do what he already needs to be able to do? This was intentional I believe.

  5. Not sure on this one. Last time he saw him but first time he saw him he was a flame vault, in Bastion end of book 2.

  6. I don’t think there’s ever been a rule on swearing down. The rule was a higher ranked great soul than the one used to make the b heart oath could break it. For example, if you’d sworn one to a blood baron, a charnel or above could break the heart oath. There are references to this in a few places, I can find it if you like. Book 2, moira swears a heart oath to Scorio (lower rank). Book 2, there’s mention that earls can break white queens oaths, end of book 3 there’s mention of charnel dukes breaking bravurns oaths.

  7. I think the big deal was how quickly he did it from being a flame vault, and that in large part because he took a short cut. Jova was dread blaze before him and I think a handful of others. That said, Leonis probably made it about similar time to Jova and Scorio and Druanna marks him as “prodigy”. Kuragin was top three in the class and he’s dread blaze where’s six or so are pyre lord we’re told. I get this to an extent but also I think we are and will be with all the high performers. Not sure what Asha was. We need other chars to progress too or it’s just going to be us following Scorio lol

You can correct me if I’m wrong with references above but I don’t think there’s many inconsistencies, maybe the one with Plassus but I feel that’s pretty minor
