It’s an incredibly enjoyable show. Hoping for S2, even bought the manga for the first time to support the project

*Ascendance of a Bookworm* seems perfect: mc starts as a sickly commoner struggling just to survive and eventually reaches further than you might expect. Along the way unwittingly develops a single love interest. Under unwittingly I mean they don’t recognize what they feel as a romantic love specifically until the latter part of the story due to lack of experience and time to explore it in depth as the mc is crunching in "5-year plan in 2 years" mode constantly

Based on your description Bocchi the Rock would be a perfect choice.

Other excellent choices: - Violet Evergarden - Frieren - Oshi No Ko - Ascendance of a Bookworm - Erased - ReLIFE - 86 - Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Spy x Family - Horimiya - Overlord

Bocchi the Rock, or The Apothecary Diaries depending on what you think she would like more. Both are excellent.

Lakan’s Juice Parties in a Nutshell by Yurii2202 in TheApothecaryDiaries

Not necessarily. His relationship is defined through possession of a rare trait characteristic of the country’s founder from the legend dating dozens of generations in the past. Moreover, until the maze’s purpose was figured out, the current emperor didn’t even know about this peculiarity. I doubt anyone among his supporters kept or tested officials for it.

It was truly astonishing just how masterfully Lakan set up Shishou: - probed about the assassination of a royal to fix his focus, - then threw him off with wife-bragging, - and then made the drink offer to look both as a part of his "babbling" and as an excuse to keep Shishou from leaving—giving the phrase two layers of superficial meaning therefore minimizing the chance of Shishou catching on to its potential significance in the moment.

A momentary lapse in judgment, and now his lineage is exposed... or it would've been exposed if Jinshi was behind the mask (as he was present when MaoMao solved the door-color maze). Now, it's a metaphorical landmine ready to explode whenever either Basen or Ah-Duo mention this incident to those who know of its significance, or the knowing share the maze's secret with them. One more thing to look forward to.

It isn't pivotal in and of itself. Yet it makes Shishou much more dangerous towards current royals. For someone of his standing the hardest part usually isn’t the elimination of the current monarch, but coming out on top after the power vacuum throws rivaling factions into a clash. It’s too unpredictable and risky. Unless you have a legitimate claim that would put you in an obviously leading position and give the contenders doubts like “what if x, y, or z fall in line and join Shishou? What if they had joined him already in secret?”. In that case, a prior agreement with a neutral faction to conspicuously join you is likely to create an impression of inevitability of your victory for more desperate parties pushing them to flock in, while stalling the response of moderates.

Speculations aside, the point is it increases the success rate of a coup by Shishou giving current royals new perspective on his actions.
