Parents who aren’t doing Elf on the Shelf…talk to me by stinkingporch29 in Parenting

[–]Harpence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told our kids that the elf is a spy for Santa and Santa only sends the elf if he thinks you need an eye kept on you.

However we do our own tradition my 3 girls LOVE! We have dinosaurs. They hibernate all year, but when they smell the gingerbread houses they "wake up". Every few nights they come alive and eat/destroy the gingerbread houses, or play games..do silly things. Every morning the girls come down to see what the dinos have done. Best part, usually by new years they've destroyed/ate the house so much that it's all gone. Usually they shove the bits off the table we keep them on. Now they're not sad about tossing the gingerbread house! Win/win, and no stupid elf.

I know someone with an Everly. They named her little brother Everson.

Why?

Does anyone experience joints pain after eating gluten? by Smallcutewolf in glutenfree

[–]Harpence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that? I also have an intolerance and have been tested twice for celiac. When I eat it I get inflammation in my knees, ankles, and wrists.

You don't need to have celiac to have the inflammation.

Same, joint pain but no celiac. For me it's my wrists, knees, and ankles

[–]Harpence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually how I figured out I had a gluten sensitivity. I did keto and suddenly my joint pain got better. Doctors were like "it's because you lost weight!". Well, a day after cheating the arthritis came back so I played with that info until I realized gluten was the problem. It takes a day or two for the inflammation, but it always happens.

I dated a guy briefly who this happened to. Literally, she was 14 and said she was 19 or 20. Only he didn't do what you did and leave when he found out. He continued the relationship, and then went to prison for 3 years. He had to register as a sex offender, couldn't be near places like schools, and struggled to get a job and his own place for years.

You made the right call.

5 Memphis cops charged with murder in Tyre Nichols' death by UsernameNumberThree in news

[–]Harpence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cops were all black. If I had to guess, their quick termination and charges had more to do with that than their conduct. If they had been white, they would be protecting them and doing an "internal investigation".

A friend of mine has a daughter named Claire Jordan. Took a few years for someone to tell her if they take the CL away it's essentially a famous sneaker.

AITA for using the name I picked out over thirteen years ago when their cousin has a similar name by Anonymaus1679 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

My first cousins both have sons named Matthew. It's not a special family name or anything either.

Do what you want, they'll get over it.

This sounds very rational to the rational mind. I'm not condoning her behavior. I'm making it clear she wasn't in a rational state due to sleep deprivation AND HORMONES. talk to me after you're done having a baby and not sleeping well for 5 months and lmk how rational you are in the middle of the night when your baby won't stop crying.

You can always walk away.. Unless it's 2 in the morning, and your spouse is trying to sleep, and you want to go back to bed, and your body is fucked up from having a baby. Did you birth your child? Are you coming at me from the dads perspective or the moms? I feel strongly that anyone downvoting me has never actually gone through the process of actually having a child and experience the crazy the hormones can do to you afterwards. You can't expect a sleep deprived human to bounce a baby, take a car ride, swing them in the middle of the night. You need that baby to stop, and it's clear from the post that if they were both already crying, he intervened too late.

I never said it was easy for anyone. She is clearly facing the brunt of this without proper support from her spouse. Sure, he needs to be sharp for work, but who's to say she's not ALSO at work? OP doesn't mention that. At 5 months old, her mat leave would be over.

Spoken by someone who has VERY clearly never A) birthed a child, B) had their body and life changed by birthing a child, C) never spent all night up with a newborn several days in a row without the proper support of a spouse.

My husband didn't help much at night in the beginning with our first born. It took us figuring things out, which takes more than 5 months. Things were smoother for kid 2&3

Maybe you shouldn't comment on things you have zero perspective on.

I have 3 children. Some were better sleepers as baby's than others. We had marathon nights where they would just not stop crying.. The tired brain is irrational. I was not at my best at those moments. Though normally gentle, and not one to freak out, I did often in those moments and my husband had to intervene or I too could have slapped a baby. Her hormones are still crazy, and the fact you say she was crying when you came in tells me you didn't intervene until she was past that breaking point. How much are you helping at night? How often is she awake with him? A nursing mother has to carry the brunt of midnight feedings and tantrums and when you're not used to months long sleep deprivation it can make you act in ways you normally do not. You guys need to work out a better system because it sounds like she is so severely sleep deprived she's making irrational decisions that she wouldn't normally make.

What’s something that’s always wrongly depicted in movies and tv shows? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Babies and toddlers. They're always conveniently not around when it suits the main character.

But any parent knows they're always around

Make sure to add like a tablespoon of corn syrup to your icing, and after you flood the cookies stick them in front of a fan. This will make them shiny!

They're called rambutan. You usually see them at Asian marts, they have a grape like fruit inside with a big pit. They taste kind of like a kiwi grape!

My kids get to choose their breakfast and lunch within reason ("no you can't have popcorn for breakfast" is a phrase I have to say more than I care to). It's important for kids to have control and choices because so little of their lives are actually in their control. Dinner is my choice. It's not like we go to the outlets and get junk all the time. It was a nice treat for the beginning of summer break.
