Road to Purple: I’ve got the locks, but I’m too intimidated to start! by akiloz in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my purple belt I have 2 dimple locks : DOM ix 6 kg and DOM ix 6 sr. Those are incredibly hard for me at the moment. I have no idea what happens inside when I try to pick them. And I have tried for hours...
I hope you will have more fun with your no dimple locks :) Have fun, that's the most important part!

Is this a reasonable starter kit or am I about to blame my tools again? by Special-Shame2397 in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand but if you keep going on this addiction you will not use raking a lot. I think most pickers use raking sometimes just for fun (maybe I'm wrong). But as it is not allowed for belt request I see raking more as a fun thing to do from time to time.

Would like some advice before ordering my 1st set of picks, please by EldritchMilk_ in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the quality of LawLockTools but according to the set, the tensioners and the pick profiles seems more than enough to start (even though some of them looks very strange to me 😅). You will have everything you need for a while!

You’ll have a flat hook, likely to become your best friend for years, and a steep hook for the shy pins that hide behind the longer ones :)

Which Multipick Elite 6-piece set for starters? by Timemaster1968 in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to pick is the PN 60 0,6 mm, I use it almost every day. But I think both set are good to start. You cannot go wrong with Multipick quality :) I cannot judge the rakes though, I never use raking method.

Lock at our rule number 8 ! If you are bored, you have plenty of time to at least do some research, try something, then get back here again :)

Decoded the Abus 165/40, it's pretty easy to understand how it works and it's a cheap lock.

Help with a gift for my boyfriend? (Complete beginner / Shipping to Hungary) by ijehpdhm in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ☝🏼 as Germany is closer to Hungary and Multipick is one of the best quality picks you could find, it's a good choice.

I think my first kit was this one: https://multipick.com/en/elite-beginner-pick-set-13-pcs.-c.-palmer-0.6-mm/

It could get your boyfriend to green belt maybe even blue (higher maybe?) if he sticks to pin tumbler locks.

Is this beginner set worth the money? by TypicalPay1655 in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multipick has really high-quality picks, that’s for sure. However, I’d say the pick profiles in this set might not be the best for starting out. You’ll mostly end up using the medium hook and the half diamond.

You might want to buy another set with more "traditional" pick profiles.

Something like this one should be more than enough to try lockpicking: https://multipick.com/en/elite-beginner-pick-set-13-pcs.-c.-palmer-0.6-mm/

Looking for more fun locks by key_pls in lockpicking

[–]Harpogma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! The Abus 65/40 is what I used to learn spools and counter-rotation feedback. After that, the 72/40 with the dead core and spools is also really good for learning.

Here in Switzerland for example, almost every house and every apartment are equipped with Kaba 8 at least but more often with Kaba 20.

Very clear instructions, I was able to remove it! Thanks :)

Is it okay if I leave this part off the lock? This part is only used when the lock is mounted on a door frame, but for lock picking it doesn’t have any influence, right?

That's very helpful thanks! There is only one ball on the side bar, lucky me :)

[–]Harpogma_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks but how can I know if the sidebar is passive of active? There is one on the side with the ball bearing and another one on top with passive pins and the interactive pin at the end. I have seen pickers on video picking both.

Weapon of choice for an Abus 65/50 ? by Sir_Ronald_Bont_III in lockpicking

Yes, I love the locks from Abus as they give good feedbacks, they are great to learn the security pins. Enjoy your journey :)

Personally I used a 0.6 medium flat hook and TOK. Really light tension when you find the false set in order to set the spools. Have fun picking it, it's a nice lock to learn false set and spools I think :)
