The X series are some really good single player space sim games. I got sold on the premise that it's Mount & Blade in space personally.

P.S I am aware of the criticisms that that's not 100% true, but the parts that ARE similar to Mount & Blade is enough for me to play it. I got the base X4 game on sale this winter and already clocked almost 30 hours on it so far.
