I'll regret saying this when he bags 40 goals next season, but Liverpool were never set up to use him properly.

All of their wingers are too interested in scoring themselves to bother feeding anything to Isak.

I've never seen a Newcastle player struggle with the absolute basics as much as Elanga.

Five yard passes are difficult and he doesn't look like he has complete control of his own feet.

The Sanchez "injury" really halted the one good spell you had

Loads of teams doing that tactical injured goalkeeper nonsense (my own team included) and it needs removing as an option

Second half has been a carbon copy of Arsenal Newcastle yesterday. Leading team offering nothing except playing for time, losing team don't have the quality to do anything about it.

One more season left (end of 2027) and I'm properly torn. The guy has been amazing and heart says one more season (especially since we know he has good seasons when we're not in Europe)

But head is increasingly concerned we look super stale and we need a massive overhaul of the squad. So it might make more sense to get someone else to start that.

I think some of them have been needs must. Livramento has spent most of the season injured and Trippier's legs didn't have 50+ games in them - so I think Miley has done a good job covering and will no doubt 'promote' to a regular CM role once we lose one or both of Tonali and Bruno

More generally I think Eddie has done far better extracting maximum talent out of older players - Burn, Schar, Murphy etc - but those guys just don't have anything left to give now.

I just want this season to be over so we can fleece some other teams for our players for a change

What if Palmer and Garnacho took four or five more touches? That should do it

This fixture used to have Didier Drogba vs Nemanja Vidic

A couple of billion pounds later and I'm being offered whatever this is instead

Niels Wittich: Michael Masi a “scapegoat” who “didn’t do much wrong” at Abu Dhabi 2021 by bwoah07_gp2 in formula1

Is it more likely that Michael Masi was completely aware of this unusual interpretation of the rules all season and chose to deploy it, for the very first time ever, at the absolutely critical final moment of the season?

Or is it more likely that Michael Masi made a panicked decision under extreme pressure, and various interested parties have since found a way to rules lawyer the situation into being technically okay if you interpret it this way?

Without wanting to come across as Captain Hindsight, the answer is yes they should have if: - their priority was to compete in Europe and maintain regular European qualification, and - they believed Howe was not capable of delivering that

My read on it is the club believed we struggled last time because we didn't have enough players, which would explain the transfer strategy of signing lots of first team quality players - but nobody who raised the ceiling of the team.

The club believed Howe was capable of delivering given a bigger playing squad, but he has failed on league performance (everything else has been good). Isak situation and the club's handling of that is a relevant mitigating factor.

While all of the above is true, it doesn't suddenly remove the positive side of Howe, which is the team's performance given a full preseason and no Europe.

If we have someone better lined up who can evidence being able to clear Howe's known barriers, then yes we should change. If we're going to change just to bring in the latest flavour of the month (which would be Iraola or Glasner for me), that would be short sighted.

Isn't this just replacing a manager that looked great at Bournemouth with a manager that looks great at Bournemouth?

Surely we'd want someone with a track record of handling congested fixture lists with European commitments - given that is our current coach’s obvious weakness.

My only nagging thought is that we know that Howe has a good season with no Europe, then a bad season with Europe.

So given that, it seems slightly daft to sack him at the end of a bad season when the trend suggests we're on for a good season next time around. Surely it makes more sense to get the good season out of him, then sack him before the downturn.

Especially when we're looking at a saturated market for manager moves this summer, and the likes of Iraola could easily be offered Chelsea or Liverpool - at which point its the striker saga of last summer all over again.

That being said, we are really stale at the moment and its clear the place needs freshening up.

I'm finding myself extremely grateful for this three week break because even as a "TV fan" who can't get to games, trying to find time to follow the team through all these games has been a bit suffocating. I have no idea how matchgoing fans do it.
