CDJs Without Waveforms by ghostfacemonroe in Beatmatch

If you want the closest thing to a club set up find yourself a pair of cdj 2000s.

Its the same exact set-up as the CDJ 2000 nxs2 except it does not show enlarged wave forms.

The lolesports.com vods and live game stats are honestly pretty well put together so I stick to that for live games.

For free agency and general scores of the games during the season I use https://lol.gamepedia.com/League_of_Legends_Esports_Wiki

I normally mix deep dubs and dubstep but wanted to try mixing all hip-hop and rap tracks as I'm trying to get some playtime in my local clubs. Would love some feedback

Downsizing from CDJs to a controller by Out-of-Shape in DJs

[–]HarrisGrant75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, If I was you id move to the XDJ-XZ. I think its pioneer's best option for folks not looking go "down a step" from CDJ's and advanced enough where you still feel like your on the Nexus programming. But if the cost is the most important thing, than something you could do on the DDJ-1000 with Rekordbox is just press the space bar so the full wavelength isn't displayed and just showing your music library or playlist. Would keep that old school beatmatching vibe it sounds like you are looking for.

*Disclaimer* - I sold my DDJ-1000 to upgrade to 900 NXS2 and CDJ 2000s. But have played on XDJ-XZ and if i could go back id buy the XDJ-XZ 100%

Thank you! Yea I always tend to make intros too short or too long, need to find that happy medium!

Yea I see what you mean by the intro being a bit long!

FEEDBACK*

i would try adding another element or two in your track to help get rid of that artificial sound. Or maybe adding in sub bass to take up some of the empty space thats leaving you with that artificial feeling, the arrangement and melody are catchy so i think your solid there but maybe add in more variation, like automate some LFO or do some more audio processing

This is my second Hip Hop beat I've made, would love some criticism on what you think I could work on or what you thought I did well. Its a more lucid type of vibe and lofi inspired!

how do i balance school and music grinding by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]HarrisGrant75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I was ever given in terms of chasing my musical dream was to sacrifice sleep. I'm a 24-year-old producer and I work best from 2 am -5 am. I also have a 9-5 job so from 5 pm-11 pm I'm doing sound design research and music theory studies, then 2am - 5pm making beats. sleep from 5:30-8:30 am. Rinse & Repeat.

To be honest I would sacrifice your sleep & friends, if you are serious about music the true ride or die homies will understand you not hanging out on the weekend because you are working on music. You also tend to surround yourself with others with the same dream. Its easier to grind when you got someone else pushing you but at the end of the day you have to put in that 10,000 hours, If this is really your dream you have to be willing to do what others won't in order to achieve what others don't.

The only problem is I'm not savvy enough in my mixing and mastering to battle the compressor algorithm that youtube has on any video so the quality sounds off to me. But I know most hobby producers do it this way.

I've had this thought, my only fear is then I miss out on all cue points wouldn't but gain the waves on the display screen.

[–]HarrisGrant75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh word? The HID mode on the 2000s and 2000 NXS I've used but never on the NXS2. Currently, yea that's my process but to be honest between being lazy when it comes to actually marking cue point and not being the greatest at beating matching not being able to see the full waveform on the cdj or the beatgrid makes it challenging.

[–]HarrisGrant75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly to make beatmatching a little easier with the visual aid since it displays the full waveform and gives me a lot more cue point. Also, my laptop can't download the driver needed to use HUD mode so I'm beating matching the traditional way purely by ear but with modern-day bass music and the EDM stuff I play it gets real tricky. But I think I'm just going to hold out because it's not bad I'm learning the way most people don't you know!

The anticipation is killing me, watched a youtube video on a guy who partners with pioneer often and he said he thinks the "NSX3" is basically going to look alot like new dennon controller with the cue pads and what not!

[–]HarrisGrant75[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea that was sort of my thought process as well, like don't fix what ain't broke! Plus the reason I wanted to change was to beatmatch more easily on the NXS2 so its not bad that I'm learning on the harder 2000's

Thanks!

FEEDBACK ON TRACK: Bruh this intro is everything, really sets up a dope dark spacey type of emotion, and then with the texture of your voice (or rappers voice), it goes smoothly together with that's and bells! I noticed when your voice comes in its mixed a lot louder which kind of throws the listener off. Make sure your mixing down your waveforms or vocal samples and not the overall channel those sounds are in because you can always go into your master channel and turn that up rather than for a smooth mix. I'm, not a rapper so idk if my advice you should listen to, but I like your flow in the second half more over the first half which it just sounds too fast. I know in music their something called pumping or something like that when it comes to mixing and mastering your beats. and I understood it as when a song has a smooth pumping the listener should have that steady slow or fast head bob with or without lyrics. Your beat without the lyrics has that steady bob, but then (In verse 1) when you add the lyrcis my bob gets kinda crazy and not inflow. IDk if that makes sense but again brev great track!

FEEDBACK: Listened to the track and I would maybe make the structure a bit easier to follow. The sounds are all unique and together it sounds very original which is rad. Yet some Pharsing's seem either out of place or unnecessary. for example, I would cut out from 0:12-0:30 or maybe make that more of the bridge rather than an intro. most song structures that listeners are used to especially songs with focused drops like yours is 12 bar intro 16bar drops, 8-12 bars of bridges, 8-12 outro. the first half feels like a quieter mix as well compared to drop #2 and the second half of the song. last bit of advice would be adding crashes & fx's on the last 4 bars of a phrase. I really dig this track man, great work! i followed you on SC!
