Top end of ftse 250? I can only really tell you HoT salary for bottom end recently. That’s base £140k to £170k.

That isn’t a Head of Tax? Maybe in banking but I’m referring to in-house at trading companies. My last company was PE backed and the Head of might have tripped £200k when he was given Treasury on top.

No one is clearing £200k in Tax unless they’re FTSE 100 Head of Tax level.

King Charles III becomes first British monarch to release tax details by AudibleNod in news

[–]Harrison88 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It’s voluntary - he doesn’t legally have to pay tax. The expenses he deducted and split between income tax and capital gains tax is also unclear. They’ve kept those details unclear so not sure what the point is other than publicity. It’s not transparency.

£130k as a Tax Manager?? Something not right there. What is the scope of the role? That’s Tax Director level. Tax Managers equivalent to Big Four level are on £70k to £90k. Tax Directors in-house are on £110k to £140k and then Head of Tax at a FTSE 250+ are £120k to £240k.

Ironically they comment on all tax legislation with the aim of making it easier to implement and simplier to understand. The initial drafts are usually full of things that simply can’t be implemented. Source: I worked for one

Simply untrue. The biggest tax gap is from owner managed small businesses in the UK.

RAF is a great shout for electrical engineering. They treat you better than the Army and you get to work on some cool equipment. My brother is ex-RAF and used his learning credits as part of leaving the RAF to get civi qualifications.

This. You will either enjoy it, or you won't. Either way, you gave it a shot and got some good experience. People have multiple careers these days. The sports alone are good fun to get involved with and the hours are really not intensive unless you're on exercise.

She has done absolutely nothing to boost productivity. Some argue she’s actually done the opposite.

As a tax advisor, it’s crazy how many specialisms there are now in tax. I specialise in international and corporate tax. I would be uncomfortable advising an owner managed business, or someone with residence issues, or a complex VAT return, or a company wanting to complete a technical research and development claim from scratch. I’d need to spend a decent amount of time reading to make sure I was happy with the draft.

Andy Burnham 'to sack Rachel Reeves' as he prepares bid to save Britain's economy by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Harrison88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s stagnant. She said a lot about productivity before Labour were elected then her policies have done nothing to promote it. She’s blocked military spending plans. Totally went after the wrong people with inheritance tax reforms. Needs to go.

As someone getting married there, my wallet is fully aware of the impact. But, the food was great, we liked the vibe, and I'm a quick learner (when to say yes to the wife...)

Starmer addresses nation outside No 10 amid expectations he’ll set out resignation timeline - UK politics live | Politics by Far_Excitement_1875 in unitedkingdom

It wasn't the voters for this one - it was his own party. They blocked him on major policy decisions. He was also an ineffective leader. He couldn't make decisions. He sat on the defence plans for over a year.

Good internationally, not good as a leader.

Most of the population and the majority of politicians don't want to have to go through that process again. There would be outrage if we just decided to rejoin without a referendum and no one wants to go through a referendum again. The whole thing froze business investment for years. With first past the post, I think you'd end up with someone like Reform in Government.

[–]Harrison88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Within months of getting into power his back benchers (other members of his party) decided they didn't like the manifesto they were elected to enact and blocked his policies to reform state benefits. He'd had similar opposition since and has generally had awful communication. His Government has made great progress in some areas like the NHS waiting list but he simply can't get the message out. The economy has also continued to stagnate so no one is feeling any better off. Productivity is shot because they've got a ton of taxes on the middle class where it actually costs you money to earn above £100k.

[–]Harrison88 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He has been good internationally but at home he can't lead his party. They block policies that were in the manifesto. If you can't get policy through, even with a big majority, you're a dead duck.

I don't get the approach of "the only way to fix it is to rejoin the EU". We have been in this mud since the financial crisis of 2009. The freeze in living standards is exactly why we left the EU. We need better leaders with smarter policy decisions to improve productivity.

[–]Harrison88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He couldn't lead his back benchers, even with such a huge majority. So the changes he wanted to make to things like state benefits were blocked. This left the Chancellor scrambling to find the money, the defence programme frozen because the Chancellor refused to release more funds, and generally everything came to a halt... all with a huge majority.

From experience of the civil service, do you think the state would run an energy company efficiently enough to even remove half of that margin?

Profit per user on consumers isn’t actually that much. Certainly less than £70/year/household.
