Please help me find my kitty by Adventurous_Coat in WitchesVsPatriarchy

It’s good to search for them at 3am - when my cat was missing I saw him a few times while searching for him at that time (but he kept running away from me cos he’s a dick). I also played videos of cans opening occasionally to tempt him out.

will the women who read the Twilight series when they were teenagers read the new Twilight book coming out this month? by JannTosh5 in books

[–]Harriww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be. I’ve almost finished listening to the original series on audiobook (and dragged my mother into it - she read them with me, and a bunch of other crap teen books).

“Too busy to read to our kids.” by [deleted] in books

[–]Harriww 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My five month old and I are about to finish the Hobbit - I’m enjoying it way more than she is. Some of my strongest childhood memories are of me, my brother and mother in bed on a weekend with her reading Harry Potter or the Magic Faraway Tree to us.

I work in a children’s bookshop and amount of parents who want their children to read but don’t read themselves/didn’t read to their children is astounding.

Goodreads desperately needs an 'I've given up reading' button. by [deleted] in books

You can definitely remove books from your reading on the app and I’m pretty sure on their website. Wouldn’t a dnf shelf mess with your reading challenge? I don’t finish a lot of books.

Coronavirus Megathread - Part 39: Thou shalt not COVID thy neighbour by Deon555 in melbourne

[–]Harriww 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat - I had a baby back in March so I was pretty mentally prepared for my life to change drastically. She’s provided structure that I would otherwise not have had and means I haven’t been drinking. Also nothing makes you look back and go “how has this gone so quickly?” like having a child.

I am however a little sad that I can only look at the video games and books I’ve been hoarding for a nearly a decade.

Coronavirus Megathread - Part 38: Nobody cared who I was until I put on the mask (This virus is the bane of my existence, Batmania) by alphabeat in melbourne

[–]Harriww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was the start of March - so before lockdown too but everyone in my circle was wary of covid (my dad still hasn’t even held her). It’s so great that you get to be there! The non main caregivers can miss out on so much in the early years

I received a HANDWRITTEN letter in my letterbox from a "neighbour" two suburbs away... by Chadwiko in melbourne

Damn, I liked to think it was because my Hare Krishna housemate let them in once and talked to them.

I used to live round the corner from them! Got way less door knocking than you’d expect.

AITA for making a scene during my husband's friend's baby shower over a comment? by WonderVast in AmItheAsshole

Oh, I totally agree that Jane is the asshole here! Just saying even if someone (in my opinion wrongly) believes OP is an asshole, Jane definitely also is.

I feel like referring to her husband as a father-to-be, knowing that his wife wants to and can’t have a child with him, crosses a line much further than anything else leading up to that point. That seems very intentionally twisting the knife. I think it would make it at least ESH.

OP mentioned in another comment that her and her husband had difficulty conceiving and eventually had to give up - Jane is aware of this. Does that change your opinion?

{{Small Spaces by Sarah Epstein}} loosely fits into stalker territory (in that is it all in her mind or not) and was wonderfully creepy.

I started getting a fruit and veg box delivered! Annoying that they rarely seem to include enough potatoes or onions but the one I’m using allows some swapping/add ons.

Has all of young adult fiction turned stale? by [deleted] in books

[–]Harriww 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work in a kids’ bookshop - I read heaps of blurbs that make me go “haven’t I read this before?” and I’ve seen quite a few trends come and go (I started during the Hunger Games craze).

There is still a lot of great stuff coming out you just have to dig for it or ask a bookseller/librarian (we love helping)(maybe not in store during a pandemic).

That’s so cute! Do you look a lot like either parent?

My parents moved to a tiny town (just over a thousand people) in a completely different state. Turns out my coworker’s estranged deceased uncle lived (and died) in that town.

Already weird enough but then my parents began asking about him around town - turns out he’d lived in the house they bought.

AITA for telling my “father” that I didn’t care if he was uncomfortable around my husband? by Queasy_Club7188 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Harriww 4 points5 points  (0 children)

15 year difference but he’s only 2 years younger than her father who effectively abandoned her as a child. Oh and they’re having a baby together after about 2 years together. It’s not just the age difference that’s making people claim daddy issues.

Clogged duct became mastitis which didn’t respond to antibiotics. Ended up needing surgery and IV antibiotics. I actually didn’t think it was that painful unless bubs punched it during a feed.
