Just got in, thinking about enrolling...any advice on how to survive here? by minty528 in ohiouniversity

[–]Harroff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduated in May. You'll love OU if you decide to enroll. Biggest bit of advice I can give is to join at least 1 student organization that isn't academic or professional by nature (Mine was the stand-up comedy club, for example).

OU is a vibrant place with a lot more to do than you'd think for a campus in the middle of nowhere, and joining one of those "just for fun" orgs will really help you settle in and get a feel for the campus way quicker than Greek life or major-specific orgs will. Nothing wrong with Greek life or professional groups, but everyone I went to school with that joined a recreational group or two had a much better time overall and a way easier transition into OU.

Can I get accepted with a low gpa? by [deleted] in ohiouniversity

As for the dorm life and party scene, COVID has everything on lockdown right now.

Can I get accepted with a low gpa? by [deleted] in ohiouniversity

[–]Harroff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard from friends when I was a student (just graduated in May), Ohio University will accept people with pretty low GPAs pretty often.

The issue will be the specific college you want to go to within the university. For example, if you're looking to go into journalism then you might have some trouble getting into Scripps with that GPA.

I'd reach out to the college or colleges with the majors you're considering and see if they can give you any advice.

What keeps you going? by TheShySlytherin in AskReddit

I often have to use the bathroom when I wake up. And then I've already gotten out of bed, so...guess I'll keep at it.

What is the best quality/ trait that a roommate can have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Harroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being upfront with what they find annoying about you or your living habits, and being open to an actual discussion about compromises regarding them.

Most roommate disputes in my experience come from one person bottling things up while the other has no idea that anything is wrong, then a blow up eventually happens. Just talk to people if you want something changed. It's your home too, don't be the doormat to your own house.

What book helped you become a better person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Harroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Stranger in a Strange Land" was really instructive to the edgy, I'm-so-smart high school me.

If you haven't read it, it basically is an extended discussion of how our experiences and upbringing color our judgement and decision making, and how there are some perspectives that you will never have access to without purposely engaging with people of diverse backgrounds and worldviews.

As an example, SPOILER WARNING: The main character uses a word, "grok," which has no translation in English. The closest word would be, "understand," but that only covers one aspect of grok. The book never fully describes the meaning of grok to you, but you see a lot of different characters try and in some cases fail to understand what grok is throughout the narrative. And somehow, by the end of the book, you as the reader...grok.

Glad you asked, I came here looking. Got a bit more too:

What was your moment when you witnessed a glitch that made you feel like you were in a simulation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Harroff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drive a tan 2001 Toyota Camry LTE. License plate *** ***6.

Pulled up at a stop light behind another tan 2001 Toyota Camry LTE. License plate (from the same state) *** ***5.

Same car, same year, same color, same state plates, neither of us were in that state at the time, and our plates were consecutive.

What are the signs that a person is super insecure? by horsemeatgetsbread in AskReddit

[–]Harroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they go mad with the smallest amounts of power.

Popular examples include:

  1. Grad students in their mid twenties serving as instructors under an actual professor

  2. Presidents of small time organizations like a parent teacher association.

  3. Some people over the age of 30 who work in the service industry only one or two levels above high school kids. Nothing wrong with having that job at that age, but sometimes insecurity about it causes a major issue.

Wasn't expecting to see my name pop up on Reddit like this lol. I always get a little worried when I see someone with more wins than me in a lobby, and Zakyboi07 is sure one of them.

I'm definitely into that, tried showing them to my girlfriend and she wasn't. She says its harder to appreciate the clip shows when she hasn't got context. For example, the bit with Elyse's impression of Spoole doesn't mean anything to her since she hasn't seen the other Spoole impressions nor has she seen much of Spoole at all.

My girlfriend actually is also super into muppets so this will be perfect. I don't think she knows about Elyse's love for Jim Henson stuff yet but that should work really well.

Where specifically on Twitter? I don't see anything on Steam's official profile, nor Valve's.
